Gotta thank Chauncy for this. I hope Melo's agent starts some stomping on Denver's throat already.

I saw that Mark. I thought that was an odd statement. If he was going there with Melo and Rip... couldn't they make a run for the playoffs? Would living in Manhattan and playing in Newark/Brooklyn be that bad? The Knicks facility is in Westchester... as much as I'm a Knicks homer, I don't think the difference is that big where you'd want to be traded to the Knicks but you'd ask for a buyout if you were traded to the Nets.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I just think players dislike the Nets organization. It's kind of like the Clippers. Until they move to Brooklyn, they will always be the Clippers east. Even after those finals runs.

Surely this will kill what team chemistry they have- If melo gets his trade (assuming he'd accept the Nets) Billups gets traded away from where he really wants to be, to the Nets. If Billups blocks it, then Melo is stuck with the Nuggets. How on earth are they going to be able to play together?

Also why would the Pistons trade Rip for an expiring contract AND Petro, who is a worthless player with several overpaid years on his contract. They could just get an expiring contract from another team if they really didn't want anything back for Rip.

Latest rumours have the Nuggets now desperatly trying to bring the Twolves in on the deal to take back Troy Murphy's contract and give up a first rounder!

Billups not wanting to play there is no surprise.

Melo doesn't want to play there either, based on only signing an extension with us.

What player actively "wants" to play for the Nets?

Not surprising at all. Billups is from Denver. The difference between Billups and another point guard we know from Coney Island is that Denver still loves Billups. If I were Chauncey, I would not be thrilled at the prospect of leaving my home community for "possible" shot at a low playoff seed.

he wants to stay in Denver for the rest of his career & work in their front office after he retires... if they trade him then he will want to have control over where he plays... i bet he'd probably wanna join up w/the Lakers to make a run at a championship if Denver dealt him away against his wishes.

The difference is huge...You can go months and not hear anyone talk about Nets basketball in the City...It's like they don't exist...Much as basketball is a business and an paycheck is a paycheck, players care whether or not people want to see them play...RJ is still bitter over the Knicks getting more coverage in the City even when the Nets made their Championship run...

I just read something on RealGm how it seems to be going through. I hate the idea of Carmelo not going to the Knicks and instead we are always competing with them for the 4 or 5 or 6 spot rather than competing with Miami for championships. Oh well.

Nets-Nuggets Blockbuster Taking Shape

Jan 09, 2011 5:51 PM EST

The Nets are "further along" in talks with the Nuggets on a blockbuster trade for Carmelo Anthony than they have been ever before, according to sources.

A three-team deal involving the Pistons that would include at least 15 players could be completed as soon as this week.

According to sources, the primary framework of the trade would ship Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton to New Jersey; Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Anthony Morrow and at least two first-round picks to Denver and Troy Murphy and Johan Petro to Detroit.

One key to the advancing nature of negotiations, sources said, is New Jersey and Denver's willingness to complete a trade without asking Detroit to surrender a first-round pick.

Still, one source insists that the Pistons taking on Petro's contract could be a potential snag.

not sure how talks could be advancing if Melo is adamant that he won't sign an extension w/the Nets... maybe he's had a change of heart... guess we'll find out soon.

Carmelo would be wasting his career in a Nets uniform.

Here's what has not changed: Carmelo has not said that he would sign an extension if this trade went down, and that's the important part.

The Nets have made it clear that they will not agree to an Anthony deal without getting his signature on an extension a la Garnett. ESPN.com reported last month that the Nets plan to request permission -- and have already been told they will receive it -- to meet with Anthony face-to-face if a trade agreement is eventually struck with Denver.

If Melo wants to really make the smart move and come to the Knicks, then he will push for it to happen, either now or in the off-season.

If he is stupid enough to WANT to go to the Nyets, then let him go there- to hell with him. Such an idiot isn't good enough to be a Knick player anyway.

All this silly drama has been dragging on too long. If Melo really doesn't want to go to the Nyets, then he or his agent would come out and say it like Billups' agent did. If Melo's agent is pushing for a Nets trade, then that says what we need to know- that it's time to move on and make the other improvements and transactions that we need to make in order to make THIS team better.

It's just really crazy how much Denver and Jersey hates the Knicks. Both teams need to sink to the bottom of the pile where they belong.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

I would laugh if Melo went to the Nets with this roster. After Nets deal Favors and all their draft picks, what help is he gonna get? CP3 in 2 years?

It's not legit unless Steven A. Smith gives it the seal of approval.
