either of its opponents top two players? I ask because that's what we're up against as long as we're rebuilding around Amare and Miami has Lebron and Wade. I love Amare. He's playing his heart out and he's made the team exciting again but I'm skeptical that we're really building a championship team.

Did the Lakers have both Kobe and Shaq that year? I can't remember. If so, one example still isn't compelling. Maybe I should have asked instead "How often does a team win a championship when its best player isn't as good as either of the opponent's top two"?

Amare is as good as Wade. And this year, Amare has played better. Much better, especially considering Amare is double and triple teamed while Wade isn't.

But your point is well taken. We need another Star offensive player who we can go to in crunch time. Who is clutch and gets it done. Maybe we make a trade; or sign someone in the off-season; or maybe Wilson develops into one.

Should we just pencil in Miami for the next 5 years as champs?

Yeah, that to me, as well as Pistons over Lakers were the best examples of teams beating stars.

The other thing to consider in the Miami/Knicks matchup is that the Knicks have the best big man on the floor in that matchup. And the best point guard.

Though, I agree in general that we need more to beat the Heat.

No, I think the Lakers with Kobe and Pau can compete with them.

Amare's as good on offense as Wade. He's about as gifted a scorer as a PF could be. But he's not the 2-way player Wade is.

The difference is Wade has extraodinary help around him, Amar'e has good help...Is STAT flanked by an all-world player AND another all-star?? No, he isn't..He does have good support though -- Ray and Willy are playing very well this year especially..Fields too..Still need more though...Priority numero uno is to see if we can add Carmelo Anthony while also keeping Chandler AND Fields - Let's see if Donnie can do that.

"Has a team ever won a championship when its best player is not as good as.."

Probably the biggest upset when stars lost was the 2004 U.S. Olympic team which consisted of LeBron, Melo, Tim Duncan; Iverson, etc - lost to Puerto Rico, Lithuania, and the Argentine team knocked them out in the semis.

Good team play and team defense can sometimes stop star teams that aren't balanced.

The Heat have the best two player in the entire league. So no team can make that claim not even the Lakers. Wade nearly took two off the celtics himself and could have taken three if not for Pierce hitting one at the buzzer. He doesn't have the luxury of playing the way Kobe did in game 7 and still winning a championship.

Kobe isn't getting you 47 wins with Q, Arroyo, Haslem, Anthony nor is he leading the Cavs to high 50's.

Both Wade and James are over-rated in my opinion. Yeah, they are top 10 for sure.

But I don't see them being in a different league from Kobe, Dirk, Durant, Amare, Howard, etc.

Any one of these guys is just as good to build a team around as Wade or Bron.

A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

You can add Deron Williams and Chris Paul to that least, also. These are just the guys I came up in 2 minutes.

the old kings and suns teams in my estimation should have won one and dallas probably should have won one....

they're examples of teams with 1 great player and great pieces around them. it's going to be hard to construct a team specifically to beat them. it's hard to get players better than lebron or wade or even bosh.

we have a lot of good young pieces on this team and depending on how they develop we'll have a chance to give them a run for their money. if it means being their kings to their lakers or suns to their spurs and only losing because of some jerk calls then i can live with that.

People are forgetting that the Heat also have Big Z, a 7'2" centrer and Bosh, a 6'11" forward. JoelAnthony comes in at 6'10" to do nothing other then guard. We do not currently have the resources to match up in the paint. Offensive rebounding is our Achilles heel. Now I don't know if the pound it out center doesn't fit into Coach D's plans, but the "No Rebounds No Rings" saying really shows up here. On a side note, Phoenix tried that small ball game against our size, and were down double digits in boards.
