http://www.nbadraft.net/nba_draft_history/2007.html

The draft is basically a crap shoot so I don't know how much credit Isiah really gets for Chandler. At the very least Zeke doesn't have a horrible draft record. He did however take Frye really early and also pick Balkman right before Rondo.

Anyway if you do this draft over I think it would look something like:

1. Durant
2. Horford
3. Noah

and then you could argue it comes down to Marc Gasol or Chandler right? Pretty money pick by the Lakers btw getting Gasol at 48.

followed by the other decent players in this draft

Mike Conley
Aaron Brooks
Thaddeus Young

Only like 20-25 out of the first 60 guys are still in the league. Most are bench players.

Either way pretty frikkin lucky we got Chandler all the way at 23rd.

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

yeah gotta give him credit. 23 other gms passed on chandler. some rightly. most not.

please do not forget 2006. 2005 was weird because he got a much better player at 30 in David Lee than he did at 8 in Frye. Supposedly it was one of the scouts who was pushing hard for Lee and he who's name shall not be uttered hated it.

Chandler is his one and only contribution to this team. All other draft selections were a joke when broken down

Ariza traded for a max deal
Lee acquired for Malik Rose's three year deal
Passing on Granger for Frye
Balkman over Lowry/Rondo then taking a point guard later
Taking on Richardson giving away our only defender to get Nate

How Dolan never overpayed everyone in the Spurs organization to come over is beyond me.

It's interesting that Walsh has been medicore with his early pics and hit two homeruns late with Douglas and Fields

no doubt, taking D Lee that low was the steal of that draft as well & Ariza was an excellent pick for where he was selected... i don't think Nate was a bad pick either, his talent is hindered by his bravado & A.D.D. tendencies... Frye & Balkman were obviously horrible selections tho... not even Donnie can get 'em all right.

yeah man. the draft is such a crap shoot. i think even a great GM at best will be able to

- not screw up a top 5 pick
- have a 50% success rate later in the draft
- find a rotation player late in the draft every once in a while

but mostly just whiff.

Zeke was a good drafter, but he also seems to think he's too cool for school and wants to be known for being so much smarter than everyone rather than just making a pick that would be logical by most observers. He can draft, but he got in his own way too. I like Frye, but he got too slick on that one and probably should've taken Bynum.

Totally agree. I think the Balk pick was him attempting to show how smart he was.

You guys who think Granger was not a top pick are way off. The ONLY reason he slid was due to knee issues, teams knew he would be a medical risk, but so far the risk would have been worth taking.
