Carmelo Still Committed To Extension With Knicks Only If Traded
More Nuggets News

Jan 07, 2011 1:55 PM EST

In a chat session, Chris Sheridan affirmed that Carmelo Anthony's current position is that he will only sign a contract extension, upon being traded, if Denver sends him to the Knicks.

Sheridan also reports that the Nets will not go through with a trade for Anthony unless he agrees to sign an extension with them.

"As I have reported before, the Nets will not do any 'Melo deal unless they are assured that he will sign the extension," wrote Sheridan. "And Melo is sticking to his guns that he will not sign an extension with any team, if traded, unless that team is the Knicks. That has been the case for more than a month, and it remains the case as of this very moment."

Really Fat Albert Curry, all organizational contractual rights to Zeke, Fartbury and Spree's yacht timeshare.

Honestly, give them anyone (and everyone) except the starting 5. Yes, that means Gallo can go.

What do you mean what should we give them? Barely anything, almost nothing. Leverage is ours, we're not running a charity here.

if he's really only committed to signing an extension with the knicks then you give them nothing of value. i would not even give them AR.

take curry, azubuike and right to swap a couple picks in the future.

I think you have to consider a small/medium token in order to acquire Melo if you ultimately intend to sign him if he becomes a FA next season. Reason being is you are going to sign him as a FA, and want to keep Chandler you will probably need to drop some pieces anyway. Also acquiring him via trade you also have the MLE to use next season to bolster the roster.

Give them AR, Curry and whatever else. If we can get a big man out of it somehow they can have Gallo as well.

So the question becomes, is Gallo a medium token?

I think he's much more than that. But...I see.

I agree that if the facts are he will only sign an extension if traded to NYK, then we do hold all the leverage. However, what Denver can do is trade him to a team like Dallas for 30 cents on the dollar (especially that Bulter is done for the year) as a midseason rental. Dallas is one of the few teams that I think would definitely do that as they probably think once they bring him in house they can convince him to stay. Which may be true and something to consider.

Ultimately, we have to consider that we are not a championship contender this year, we will be a tough out in the playoffs no doubt, but not built for a championship. If he does decide to test the FA market despite CBA uncertainty, we would be able to sign him and retain much of the current roster which would IMHO be the best possible scenario.

Keeping in mind of course this still doesn't fulfill our biggest need which is a legit center...

this is what i've been saying for the past few weeks... we can't offer some insulting package & expect to land him... u are looking at losing Wilson C or Gallo anyway if we wait til free agency, & AR is doing nothing for us... acquiring him via trade opens up other avenues for us to improve the roster, including the MLE, LLE & the use of Wilson's Bird Rights if we can swing a deal w/o including him... that is a much better way to improve the team than just waiting for free agency to land Melo & then losing Wilson & the use of our other exceptions in the process.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Take out Landry Fields. Smith is not a replacement for him at his salary. Fields adds too much and costs too little to just throw him in. We aren't trying to help the Nuggs so much as rob them of their franchise player.
