The Nuggets and Nets were reportedly close, for a second time, to hammering out the structure of a trade to send Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey.

According to Chris Broussard, a deal that would have brought in the Cavaliers was discussed before Christmas.

The trade would have sent one or two first-round picks to Cleveland in exchange for the large traded player exception that the Cavs acquired in signing-and-trading LeBron James to Miami.

Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and three first-round picks would have been sent to Denver. Al Harrington and his sizable contract would have been packaged with Anthony to New Jersey.

The deal fell apart because both Denver and Cleveland wanted the 2012 pick from Golden State that is protected for the top seven selections.

The Nets have a standing offer of Favors and two first-round picks for Anthony.

The Knicks remain Anthony's top choice but Denver is cold to New York's offer. The Knicks have been making the case to Anthony's agent that signing an extension before the season ends could have diminished value with a lockout looming. The league's bargaining stance includes shrinking all player contracts, whether already in existence or not.

1 - That can't be kosher for the Knicks to be saying things like that to Melo's agent
2 - The Nets would be left with a shell of a team with that deal. Who plays point for that team?
3 - Who gets the higher picks in that deal? I think I'd rather use that exception to trade for a player. The draft looks pretty weak as far as franchise changing players.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

the knicks organization is just reminding melo's agent of what's public knowledge no? albeit with ulterior motives.

I highly doubt that Walsh would get his hands caught in the cookie jar. If they are talking to Melo's agent, then it is safe to say that Denver has given Melo's agent permission to any team to broker a deal.

They absolutey are going to dump a salary in any melo deal for sure...Al harrington, the guy just sign the contract 4 months ago and there looking to dump it..

After Denvers last 2 games (sac and clips 2 celler dwellers) Its just a matter of time before they give up on this season and have a yard sale.

Denver has to promote that they are "Trying".

Denver has to make knicks, or others look like the villian.

At some poimt they will turn on Melo.

Im long on the books, even before the season that Nuggs should be happy with Chandler and thats it. Otherwise they get nothing. Give melo his extension and take Curry, 3 mil and Chandler.

Melo is not signing with Jersey. They can get close all they want and promote what ever frustration or victomization they want but in the end Melo holds the cards.

If Melo is content without the extension then we keep Wilson as 6th man? Sign and trade asset for a big? Do we even have that kind of space?

I really like Chandler and to me its not "team Wil vs Team Gallo", its just Chandler is more marketable and perhaps he is redundant with Melo. Melo is better. I do this, put Gallo in the weight room and big bowls of pasta and he becomes our PF. Thats progress.

The rest is up to Donnie. If he Moz don't cut it, then bring in a serviceable body to compliment Amare. If its Jerome Jordan and Moz and they get it done, sure.

I don't need no starphuchs. Who thought Lando would be our 2? Who thought Rainman is all star Nash-lite? Who thought Amear is the MVP so far?

So my imagination can't see what Donnie can see.

In Him we trust.

Poor Al. If he could just have a better shot selection, he'd be an all-star.

That Al contract looked bad when they signed it. If he's going to have an impact it will be with a 7sol team and we wouldn't take him for that salary.

wow...just wow. check out the fan comments in the Denver post...all...yes all, want to blow up the team after back to back losses to cellar dwellers sac and the clips...btw - not alot of love for Karl either

http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_17032078

looks like the fans not only want melo gone.....but also Nene, Birdman and K-mart as well...alot of griping about lack of interior defense

this comment was good "Would it kill Nene to jump or box out occasionally? They need to move Melo already, and ship K-Mart and Nene too."

Melo and Wilson are both capable of playing multiple positions. I'd have no problem with both of them in the starting lineup. I'd assume Denver would prefer Gallo and Fields because they're on rookie contracts though.

That's a big offer from NJ. I doubt the Knicks can match it without hollowing out the roster. Better to wait until the offseason, not too far off.

yeah they look like they didn't give a shhh, melo was smiling and having fun last night while he was down 16.

I don't know if melo has completely giving up on the season, cause he played absolutely no defense last night, and the rest of the team followed suit, not to mention the shot selection was a laugher

Look, if they want Melo that bad, that they're willing to give up a whole pile of stuffs, then let them have it. A gutted Nets with Melo won't go anywhere, and he doesn't even want to be there.

You can't make deals to prevent other teams from getting a player, you have to make deals to better yourself. We're not in 5th grade.

WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. GIVE ME STARKS'S 2-21 ANY DAY OVER THIS LACKLUSTER CLUSTEREFF.
