Here's what's great.
For the last 10 years, we've been a terrible team and no free agent would want to come here, not to mention we had no salary to spend on them.
Before that, even when we were good, we'd always been capped out, and unable to really sign anyone except for that Houston signing.
Finally, we have a good team that a signed FA could make even better, and we can finally use the allure of playing in NYC to our advantage.
If you had the choice to be a difference maker for a decent team in NEW YORK CITY, would you really choose Atlanta or Houston or Oklahoma City or Toronto or Indiana (you get the picture), all else being equal?

They give a lot of credit to Amare, and right fully so, but the pices around him is the real shocker.

chandler, gallo, felton, williams, have been more then we expected, not so much felton, I knew he would avg 18 and 9.

It's not a shock to me, and that's why I felt the team could win 48 games. It makes a HUGE difference when you add a Star, but even more so when you have strength up the middle of your lineup. Felton/Amar'e is the core of a successful team. You start with a good to great PG and a Bigman. That formula is almost certain to create the basis of a good team. Then you mix that with what I felt was our strength, which is we already had great role players, but no star or PG Leader. Now all the parts fit. We still aren't perfect, but the bulk of the team is setup really well. If and when we can get solid help from AR and Timo this team would IMO be a real serious contender.

it does... gone are the days of the best articles being about Anucha Browne Saunders and articles that make telenovelas look tame and mundane

Amare has had more of an impact on the team/franchise than I thought he would.

A perfect fit- a guy who has embraced the challenge, played at high level, and captured the interest of the fans.

He also seems like a good guy, with an infectious personality.

Assuming that he remains healthy- well worth the money we are paying him.

So true. Not to take shots at DLee, but he wasn't insipiring anyone but his agent.

Now more than ever we can see clearly how stats can be empty! Amar'e has an impact that goes beyond just his stats. Another player can have similar stats but not one iota of the same impact on his team. Great players lift the rest of the team too. They put a scare into the opposing team and they deliver in crunchtime. STAT is a leader in 4th qtr points and that is a very important indicator of his impact as well.

Don't apologize for the truth; and don't forget how he also inspired opposing players who were driving the lane.

I gotta admit I underestimated Amare. I was uncomfortable with the idea of maxing out a guy who didn't give it his all on both ends of the court. He's not Ron Artest on the defensive end this year but it really does seem like he understands he this team won't win effort and execution on the defensive side of the ball.
Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please
