Nets Grow Weary Of Carmelo Pursuit
More Nets News

Dec 30, 2010 12:27 PM EST

In the long-standing saga surrounding Carmelo Anthony, the Nuggets may have "overplayed their hand" in negotiations with the Nets, according to one executive, and New Jersey's front office is now in the process of "substantively" re-evaluating its pursuit of Anthony.

The Nets have been chasing Anthony for months but according to sources, New Jersey has grown "sick of the whole charade" and have "backed away."

But the Nets have not yet completely pulled out of the hunt to acquire Anthony, who is reportedly reluctant to sign a contract extension in New Jersey.

The Nuggets are expected to opt for a young roster and to try to accumulate draft picks if the team does decide to move Anthony.

LOL, Ken Berger got called out by Mark Cuban for making up a story about Dallas being in the Melo hunt.

Nets are going nowhere without a player of Melo's caliber. They will be in the race until Melo's camp tells them he isnt coming to NJ.

I am Really Weary Weary also of the MeloDrama.

Im Really Weary Weary of all that thought that a Savior, the New Born King can rescue us.

Fans are trying to convince each other of it as if we have the power to decide.

Both Nuggets and Nets are just posturing right now- 5 picks, plus last years no.2, plus the Nets starting PG, plus a better expiring player than Troy Murphy?! ha ha- they'd better be posturing otherwise their GM is certifiable! how on earth is Melo worth all that?- Nets would be stupid agree to it. And yet I think from a marketing point of view the Nets are probably still tempted- they need a star, so I guess they're hoping to bargain down the Nuggets into taking maybe 2 picks, Murphy and Favours, which is reasonable, and far more than any other team is offering that Melo may be willing to sign with. Honestly I think the Nets must have figured out that they're only bidding against themselves.

If that deal isnon the table then the only thing holding it up is Melo not wanting to sign. This is in Melo's hands everyone.

The Nets have a great package for Melo. I don't think anyone can top it. I believe it is Murphy, Favors and two first round picks. The problem for the Nets is Melo could help them this year if he gets there soon. They are heading toward not being relevant in the playoff picture very soon. Melo is leaving Denver and they need to get something for him. I don't think the Knicks can come close to what the Nets are offering. The Knicks have to hope they can get Melo this summer. Denver has to hope they can convince Melo to go to NJ before this season is an after thought fot that team.

Billy King is such a bum GM that I can see the Nets drastically overpaying and stealing Melo from us. Until the summer, when we'll just sign him. I don't know why the Nets are going for this fella when he repeatedly says he won't resign with them.
WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. GIVE ME STARKS'S 2-21 ANY DAY OVER THIS LACKLUSTER CLUSTEREFF.

The more the Nuggs ask, the more Melo won't want to go to a gutted team.

If the money is top priority then Nuggs know he likely stays in Denver. Not a bad ploy by Denver.

Don't think they are as stupid as it seems. They won't just take on contracts to get some value. If he leaves they get big exemption and caps space to play with.

I think in a free agent situation he does a sign and trade. Melo ain't leaving money on the table.

Nets are not that stupid to "over gut" the team, Melo is not stupid to be a one trick pony, and Denver is not stupid that they at least wont "try" to suck the life out of Nets and rebuild with yoot.

Posture, its all Posture!
