i found this post on another site, food for thought, discuss..

I NEVER get involved in this. And I dont plan on it either. I just want to put it out there. I dont plan on responding. I just want to say it. For those that know me, you know im not biased. You know I dont have a agenda. You know im a knick fan first. Player fan second.

Gallo is not getting more shots because he does not want them.

Chandler is playing better because he wants it. Not money. But he understands. Wilson has a 73 regular season game advantage. I think it has something to do with it. But not everything.

I like Gallo. I never really liked chandler. However Chandler has blown me away with his play this season. Gallo has disappointed me.

Many of gallos plays do not seem authentic to me. They seem like plays where he is forcing and very unsure of himself. So he flops for a foul. He drives all the way to the basket, then kicks the ball ALL THE WAY back out because he does not want to go into the pit. He is a good passer. But many of his passes are because he wants no parts of finishing the play.

My biggest disappointment in Gallo this season is that he has used a upgraded roster not to better himself as a player but almost hide himself.

My 2nd biggest disappointment in Gallo this season is he has become way more talk than action. And that his personality animation on the floor does not fit his production.

My theory on his consistency is he is most comfortable shooting the ball. When he makes a few shots, you can see the bounce in his step. You can see a elevation in his defensive intensity and overall effort level.

My problem with this is, and im speculating, is there seems to be a sense of entitlement. Your not entitled to jump shots. You get them by moving. You get noticed by moving around. Fields does it. Wilson does it. Amare and Felton do it. Even Douglas does it. Gallo does not. UNTIL he gets a few.

It could be his role. It could be. But why does another player on the same team find ways to help without ever getting a play called for him? Sure, sometimes the ball does not move enough. But I have never seen a play move towards a role player. I see role players move towards the play. We signed 2 big free agents. Im not going to get mad at them for not looking for gallo. I am going to get mad at gallo for not finding his way into the play.

Another theory I have is that gallo was not prepared for this season. I dont see anything new. Where as I see wilson developing a 2 step to get his mid range jumper. And expanding that into a full drive. Where he is getting to the basket and finishing at a high degree of difficulty. And getting better at it as the season moves on.

I dont see the post game. I dont see any type of shot off the dribble. I dont see the mid range J. I dont see him finishing enough arounf the basket. I see him taking bad flip shots and hoping he gets the call. Or he is passing to amare, who is waiting for gallo to make a play at the basket so he can clean up if need be. So he isnt ready for the pass. I also very rarely see gallo fighting with amare for rebounds. I do see Wilson doing it.

Again im not interested in debating stats or trying to change peoples minds. This is just been building up inside of me. I have been hoping that either gallo gets it, or people come to terms with who he is. So I can get my rant out and get this off my chest. But it looks like that will never happen. So I just put it out there. I do think he can get better with experience. I do think he is a X factor for this team. And I want him to succeed. Unfortunately, the only part of his game that seems to be evolving this season is his flopping.

A fair analysis -- I have no problem with anything this dude said. Said it like it is. Funny thing is he's playing much better this year than he has in the past I'll give him that -- it's still not enough though.

Melo's obviously a primary target but if we can't get him, very quietly I'd continue to shop Gallo for anything I could get that improves this club. This guy's just not a big-time player and he's far from untouchable in my eyes. If I could ever get something good for him I'd have no problem pulling the trigger.

I have to admit, Gallo is the X factor for this team, and his contribution has been inconsistent. He and Fields are playing major minutes and are not on the bench when their effectiveness wanes. In both instances, we must look to the coach for answers. When Gallo is ineffective, Williams should be brought in to spell him. Same goes for Fields, although, I have seen pull him earlier then usual. I hate to keep harping but AR needs to be inserted into the rotation. Even if it's as a change of pace player. Maybe his added height sures up our defensive posture, moving Will to the SG and giving us more rebounding power and offense. We've played a little more then 1/3 of the season. Surely the roster can't be set in stone.

he's 22 and still figuring it out. He's got a lot of talent but clearly he's inconsistant.

This team needs a center. Not Melo, not Gallo to pick up his game.

That's on point. But I don't see it as damning. It's more a targeted call to arms intended to spur Gallo into becoming the player he has the potential to be should the message somehow find it's way into his psyche.

Here's the thing, Gallo is standing in front of a door that's unlocked, but not open. He is faintly tapping, not pounding, although he doesn't even have to knock. All he has to do is turn the handle. Behind the door is a big warehouse that's heated, well-lit, clean, and in the best location in the world. It's in great shape for a world-class manufacturing operation. All he has to do is step in and start producing high quality textiles or flintlocks or diesel engines, whatever he wants, it's all profit either way.

And that's a matter of time, he has to cultivate the correct world view, the way he approaches the battle that is the NBA league. I think he'll get it done, it's just a matter of time.

i fail to see how the knicks don't need gallo to pick up his game. he needs to be more consistent and hold himself more accountable. if he were a 20-ppg game scorer and a more reliable player, the knicks would be much more competitive (look at yesterday in orlando, if we don't go into such a slump with STAT on the bench we may pull out a W on the road against a very good team).

derrick rose is 22, he's the centerpiece of a top team in the east and putting up 24/9. kevin durant is 22 and already has a scoring title. blake griffin is 21 and in his first real NBA season and he's absolutely dominating. age is irrelevant to this debate.

gallo lacks maturity and doesn't seem to take his game seriously. i think gallo spends a bit too much time enjoying NYC and not enough time focusing on getting his game to the next level trying to be a true 2nd banana. that is real unfortunate, because i think gallo has the skills to average 20 points a game this year. if he did, the knicks would be a lot better off. i fail to see how they wouldn't.

as is, we get a good performance every now and then, an absolute dud every now and then, and mediocrity in between. that will certainly hold us back. i would have absolutely no hesitation including him in a package for melo, its the other players i'd worry about (no chandler, no fields).

I'll tell you what, you grow up in a foreign country and come to America and see how fast you adjust.
Griffin, Durant, and Rose don't speak another language, they have played in the same basketball culture their entire lives. Gallo is not only adjusting to a giant cultural shift in his daily life but also in his profession, hoops. His youth and the unique character of his new home, New York, make his transition that much more complex and interesting. Everyone matures at different rates. At 22 and with his progress so far, I'm satisfied and confident he will become the player we all know he can become, we all want him to become.

and that player is looking more like hedo or kukoc and less like peja or dirk.

eh. dirk came from germany in similar circumstances and put up 22/10 as a 22 yr old in his 3rd season. (gallo: 15/4)

also, gallo played pro ball in europe AND his pops played pro ball in europe. i agree, everyone matures at different rates but his game is already there. its his coming to play prepared every night that isn't, and i'm not sure when that will come. if he's been a professional basketball player for a while and was raised by a pro player, if he's not preparing himself for games and playing consistently, i don't know when he ever will.

Gallo is getting to the line a tad more and his FT% has gone from 81 to 88. Beyond that he has shown zero improvement this year over last year.

You are 100% wrong on this. The Knicks need Melo's consistency very badly. As for a Center yes that is needed too but only after Melo is added.

Maybe watching those Larry Bird highlights wasn't the greatest idea. He should have started by watching some John Starks footage.

Can't wait for someone to develop when you have somebody like Amar'e in his prime. Especially when that player isn't showing progress.

Get him another proven player now.

I'm 100% wrong? We got outrebounded by 15 last night. How does Melo fix that? We cant stop players in the post, how does Melo fix that? We are the #1 scoring team in the NBA.

Sorry.. I'm a 100% right. If Chandler isnt dropping 25 then Gallo is picking up the slack. Consistant scoring isnt the problem. Defending the post and rebounding is. Keep telling yourself different maybe you will start to believe it

You're asking how Melo fixes our rebounding? Simple, he rebounds the basketball.

8.3 to be exact.

wow... and two above his career average. Awesome. I cant wait to trade Chandler, Gallo, Fields, Douglas and AR to get Melo and bring back Al Harrington. Good times. Think Melo makes the all star game this year or does he get beat out by someone like AK47 again?
