Landry Fields, New York Knicks – 14.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists

Since becoming the 39th pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, Landry Fields has been one of the most consistent players in the NBA while emerging as a surprise candidate for the 2010-11 Rookie of the Year award. This week, Fields continued his strong play helping the Knicks to a 2-0 record while posting back-to-back double-doubles and shooting the lights out (not literally, that would be against the rules), knocking down 10-15 (.667) shots from the field and 4-5 (.800) from behind the three-point line. The shooting guard ranks 28th in the NBA in rebounds (7.6 per game), ahead of players like Marc Gasol, Nene and David West. And his .524 field-goal percentage is 16th in the league, better than Pau Gasol, Andrew Bogut and Chris Bosh. On top of all that, Fields has started every game for a resurgent Knicks team currently second in the Atlantic Division and tied with the Orlando Magic for fourth in the Eastern Conference at 18-12.

all right that's pretty funny that he's outrebounding two "bigs" that we're clamoring for, gasol and nene.

That's more a testament to Fields' good rebounding than to anything wrong with Gasol or Nene. G & N are still worth clamoring for and they should be considered bigs. They average 7 + rebounds (probably 8 rbs in the pace of our team's games) and do other things well.

We shoot more than most teams and thus we provide great amounts of rebounds. Not a knock on Landry as he has a great knack for the ball but we shoot more 3's and many 3s provide for long rebounds which can come out. If he gets even one a game that pads his stats just a big.

Gasol & Nene are the #28 & 29 ranked players in rebounding in the NBA... both of their sub-11 rebounds per 48 rank #54 & 56... i don't see them as the answer for our rebounding needs.

we need to be looking at some of the names in the top 20 of this list to address that need this offseason... Reggie Evans is a guy i really like but he's not listed here because he doesn't have enough games to qualify this season... right now his 21.4 per 48 average would rank him at the top of the list over Kevin Love.

Here is another one:

(and vote for Fields in the poll!)

#2
Landry Fields : New York Knicks

"By his standards, Fields has been subpar over his last three games, and -- surprise! -- the Knicks lost all three. Am I the only one who sees the correlation? The surprising starter averaged 7.3 points and 5.7 rebounds in that span. Still, I'm not ready to drop Fields quite yet, although DeMarcus Cousins, who has caught fire of late, is nipping at his heels.

Gasol is having a down year rebounding the ball. His rebound rate was a little better than the league average for centers last year http://www.hoopdata.com/advancedstats.aspx?team=%25&type=pg&posi=C&yr=2010&gp=0&mins=0. Nene has always been a subpar rebounder for his career.

I don't understand these bigs that can't board. You got the size, the strength, they must not want the ball. No heart. Any big with bad rebounding numbers is a huge red flag, an indicator of a weak will, a lack of heart, a faulty character. Not a winner, a loser. They're all losers.

Fields, big heart.

"I don't understand these bigs that can't board."

I don't understand posters who don't understand that bigs are valuable for things other than rebounding. There is interior defense, scoring ability, blocking shots, passing ability, and pick and roll finishing. So do you really think Turiaf is a loser, not a winner, and has a lack of heart?

Specifically, some bigs shoot from the outside which MDA likes because it opens up the paint more. Because those players are not under the basket as much it affects the number of rebounds that they will get. Choosing a big primarily by how many rebounds they get is inappropriate for an MDA team. Mike wants a lot more than just rebounds from his big man.
