And that's what Fields could be. Here's Walsh on the matter (from NY Post):

"Knicks president Donnie Walsh told the New York Post that rookie forward Landry Fields reminds him of Celtics legend John Havlicek.

"Talking to some people today, he reminds them of John Havlicek when he first came into the league," Walsh said.

"And I think that's right on. [Havlicek was] like that, a great athlete, known as a defensive player who improved his shooting as he got along, but was always a good all-around player who just kept getting better.

"A great all-around player who was a key to those Celtics. I think Landry can be that."

New York drafted Fields with the 39th overall pick in this past June's NBA Draft and coach Mike D'Antoni loves what he sees.

"He keeps improving offensively and defensively," D'Antoni said. "He's just a smart guy and a great player. I don't want to get too far ahead. He can be a great player because he is what all coaches love. He's a glue guy who can be really good on a great team."

The new new core: Randle, RJ, IQ. Maybe Mitch. Future pick. Future trade. Future FA.

+1. I don't know why this keeps coming up. It was pretty much unanimous.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Thats excatly why we have no chance at trading for melo--but I could care less. I hope Melo goes to the Nets.

that all depends on whether Melo wants to go to NJ or not, doesn't it? if he is, then nothing we can offer will match NJ's offer, Landry Fields or no Landry Fields... but if not, then we're definitely in the running to get him in a trade w/o having to give up Landry Fields, unless u think DEN would just let him walk for nothing to spite us.

Which is fine. We should only make trades that improve the team, not destroy it. If we have to destroy the current team, then pass. Agree?

1000% agree. Keep Gallo and Fields no matter what.

Offer Chandler, AR, Turiaf, Curry's expiring, Walker or Buke, $3mil for Melo and say "Take it or Leave it Muffah". If they want us to take Nene, too, thats fine. I don't really care if we fail to get Melo, but he'd be a nice upgrade at SF. Gutting the core to do it is plain stupid and unnecessary.

Facts (as I see it):

1. Melo wants The Garden, the legacy, the scratch from Madison Ave, and the fame
2. We don't owe the Nuggets diddley
3. We want to compete for the next five years for a chip, starting next season
4. His mama din't raise no foo: Melo wants what we want, to win. He knows NYC will give him everything else. No reason for him to douche down and act like he's bigger than the game (i.e., "Witness" ad in Cleveland from LeCon).
5. If he will accept playing out the year in Denver, and tell them Knicks or I walk, they will deal for our package. Something is better than nothing.

Turiaf, Buke and Curry are expirings, AR has big upside and on a rebuilding team he gets burn. Chandler is a great player just out of his rookie deal (we might have to S&T him so they get him locked up - can we do that?).

I think the only trade that makes sense is one of Gallo and Chandler, unless they are giving us back Nene and JR Smith also.

Ideally you would have say Chandler, Gallo, TD, Curry, AR, Walker, 2nd rounder and 3 mil going out and say Melo, Nene, JR Smith, DeAndre Jordana and someone like Barbosa coming back. This is a huge turnover though, something that is better done in the summer.

I don't know, there are a lot of needs that should be addressed. We might just be better of trading our spare parts for a backup PF/C and PG and convincing Chandler to take a the q offer for one year and just getting Melo via FA.

A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

not possible w/the impending CBA leaguewide paring down of player salaries & our available cap situation this summer... only way to be able to keep Wilson & sign Melo this summer is if u can clear Turiaf, AR, TD, Mozgov & Rautins off our payroll w/o taking any back in 2011, in which case how to you propose to have a backup PF/C & PG on the roster at all unless you sign minimum salary players for both roles?

I dont want Carmelo Anthony at 25mm anyway--bad business. That would cap us out and we would lose all of our assets.

also not true... we actually gain assets in the form of the MLE & LLE to sign FA's if we trade for Melo... that's been pointed out to you many times... u make it sound as if only Felton, Melo & Amare will be left over with nothing else but minimum salary players to round out the rest of the roster... DW has already said he's not going to gut the entire team to get any 1 player so get past that already... it's not going to happen.

How do you gain assets-which one's what exactly do you think Denver wants for Carmelo--Billy walker? You are making a ghost trade with nothing going to Denver?

wow, you really can't seem to register what i'm telling u... once again for the 96000th time, DW is not going to gut our roster to trade for Melo... the only way a Melo trade gets made is if Melo forces DEN's hand & we end up getting him for an equitable package that includes keeping at least 1 or 2 of our young players... you also gain the MLE & LLE to use to sign FA's this summer.
