I hope Walsh can find a trade for a backup PG and then open a roster space to sign Earl Barron. If Barron can replicate his act from last season, he will help a lot.

What about Steve Nash? Given the moves Phoenix made, I've got to believe they would consider moving him- Curry & perhaps Douglas & Chandler? Maybe Douglas & Gallo with Curry?

Yeah lets give up two starters and our main expiring (cap relief) for a backup PG. As good as Steve Nash is, I have no idea how he would fit here now, unless you want Felton to regress.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Why do people always offer up Chandler or Gallo for anyone?

This was a who can we potentially get for cheap list that can help the team this year --not Im going to destroy the roster as we know it for an ending contract.

Word. I have no idea why we would keep Mason Jr. around. The rotation is tight as is, and Walker would be first off the pine. Time for Mjr to go and Earl to step into his well-defined roll (rebounds, 3pters, occasional block). He's the perfect short-term compliment to Amare right now. He may not be a keeper, but he would give us what we need for this season. Maybe he ups his game and we give him an option for next year.

I wholeheartedly second that! I love Nash, but we are far from win-this-year-or-bust mode. We are on a new five-year "while Stat is dominant" mode. Giving up all our pieces for an aging Nash isn't a good plan. I could see Nash coming after his current contract to give us 15 minutes at backup PG. But no way I trade for him to be a backup.

these are all guys that you target in free agency... i wouldn't give up any of our assets to get those guys now, at least not until we figure out Melo's situation & what the Knicks plan to do if they don't land him.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Nice list Briggs.

With our nice start - the more we keep winning it provides Walsh with time to be patient. In an ideal world I think he'd like to see the Melo drama reach a conclusion before having to move parts that could be used in that trade or another major move. The better we play the better position Donnie is in - in terms of leverage (because we are less desparate).

IMO Donnie doesn't want to add marginal pieces that he might regret later -- he's looking for legit contributors who would be part of a playoff rotation and really increase our value.

I like a bunch of the guys on your list -- Courtney Lee seems like he'd be cheap and a good combo fit for us. Guy that I would like to see is Dalembert --- I think he would provide us a huge defensive lift against teams like Miami, Chicago, Atlanta if we bumped into them in the playoffs. Landry would also be a significant player come playoff time.

Guys on cheap contracts for one year(or cheap second) that can help the Knicks now(not in any order and attainable)
