More Print A Manhattan grand jury is poised to indict "G-Dep" for the 1993 murder the hapless, Harlem-born rapper confessed to earlier this month.
"He's trying to remake his life," defense lawyer Michael Alperstein explained of his client's confession as he waited this morning for news of the indictment, expected by day's end.
"He was making amends" through a 12-step narcotics program, the lawyer sayd. "He didn't know he'd killed somebody. He knew he'd done something wrong."
G-Dep -- a one-time P-Diddy protege -- was last week catapulted to a fame he never enjoyed in rap after walking into the 25th police precinct and confessing to a cold-case shooting, only to be shocked to learn that his alleged victim had died and that he was now a murder suspect.
G-Dep.He'd made the confession over the objections of loved ones,
"When they told me, I was like, 'Oh, I'm not going home after this,'" G-Dep, real name Trevell Coleman, told The Post in an exclusive interview.
"I'm just trying to get right with God," he explained of his confession.
Prosecutors say he faces up to life in prison.
