If we dump all crap contracts before end of season and turriaf opts out--my guess is well have 29mm to spend starting with Carmelo @17 mm chandler 6 dalembart 3.5 and mim cap holds. Maybe Im off a bit bit this would be my model. Ill take what I can get off of this year--I think we trade anything NOT from the starting unit for guys who can play now in ending contracts

You really think Turiaf's leaving $4.36M on the table to opt out this summer? I like him but the fact of the matter is the dude's only averaging 4.3/2.9/1.3---all slightly below his career average and not all that impressive when looked at from afar..Plus he's been in & out of the lineup with knee problems, all while averaging less than 20 mins a night..My bet is his other intangibles, solid as they may be, won't have any bearing when the time comes: stats generally do the talking when it comes time to negotiate numbers for a follow up contract and this dude's just aren't there. Look at how the Yankees chose to handle Derek Jeter -- dude had one off year toward the end of his career and the Yankees played hardball with him..And that's Derek Jeter, Yankee captain and still face of the franchise... I don't think Turiaf will see that kind of money again. Did Jeffries opt out of his deal?? I may be wrong but the only way I see Turiaf in a different uniform next year is if we find a taker in a trade..

Comparing Dalembert & Turiaf, your plan has Dalembert getting Turiaf money next year -- maybe I could see a team giving him that kind of money though I don't know if I would (I think we might be able to find Dalembert-type size & production elsewhere for cheaper). He hasn't been a good fit for that SAC team at all, certainly not for the money he's currently making, yet he's still found a way to manage over 7 rebs a game somehow in 20 mins (most of that came earlier in the season when he was starting)..Point is he'll probably get that type of money from someone before Turiaf does, the stats are more in his favor in the same amount of PT per (7 rebs is 7 rebs I guess). Hey who knows man, maybe not -- there may not even be a MLE built into the next CBA. That may hurt players like these....I still think it's asking a lot for Carmelo to wait out the year and sign somewhere as a FA..Last summer was one thing but this summer, under a new CBA where he may have to leave a lot of money on the table (both short and long-term) is another. We'll have to see..My whole point with Anthony right from the beginning -- I would hate for him to get antsy and agree to sign somewhere like NJ or Chicago because he doesn't want to leave huge money on the table and/or doesn't think we're being aggressive enough to get him. On the other hand, he might understand that it wouldn't be wise to come to a team that just gutted themselves to get him either..I can see that point as well..Tough situation to gauge right now..I wonder what he's really thinking and what his agent will ultimately advise him to do when the time comes for him to make his decision..I think he's definitely gone in Denver -- question is when push comes to shove does he agree to a plan B where he gets his security or does he take on a lot of risk and wait for his friend Amar'e & the Knicks?? We'll have to see...Well thought-out roster btw -- I like Murphy for that type of money if healthy; Parker too -- very quietly Parker has always been an excellent 3-pt shooter, one of the league's best. Not a huge Telfair guy but I can see the logic in adding a vet PG like that..I even like the draft picks though I'm not sure we have a 2nd round pick this summer..Doesn't it go to the Lakers in the Toney Douglas deal??? I think we may have picked up a 2nd rounder from GS in the D Lee deal -- not sure when that's for though, I think 2012.

Still, Briggs has a point. What we learned this past week is that we are not a contender. Losing the depth involved in dumping contracts won't hurt us much this season and will put us in a position to be stronger in 2011.

From what I have seen from Moz I am not ready to give up on him just yet. He's on a rookie deal, and shows signs of potential quality in a year or two. We need to give him some burn this season and see if he develops.
