I get the feeling Houston won't be swapping picks with us.

Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets will examine all options before determining his future after another stress fracture was found in his left ankle Thursday morning.

Yao, as is his nature, was upbeat in light of a setback that throws a shadow over his future.

"I haven't died," he said. "Right now I'm drinking a beer and eating fried chicken. What were you expecting, a funeral?"

Only a few days ago, a source close to Yao expected the 7-foot-6 All-Star center to return to action from a bone bruise in his left ankle for the Rockets' post-Christmas three-game homestand that starts Dec. 27 against the Washington Wizards.

Yao was more optimistic, saying he was targeting the team's three-game road swing through California that begins Sunday.

But a routine exam this week discovered his injury, sustained in the first quarter of a Nov. 19 game against the Wizards, was a fracture.

This sucks. You really have to wonder if it's time for him to call it a career. He's just another in a long line of overly-big men who just can't stay healthy.

Somewhere in there is probably an ethnic joke that includes Eddy Curry and chicken curry.

He has mentioned retirement in the past. He has to be very discouraged. I hope he makes it back. He is an amazing player when he is healthy.

Could have been one of the greats. But his ruthless Chinese overlords overworked him to exhaustion and weakened his little fragile feet.

This is unfortunate for Yao. He's a pretty classy dude, and was fairly dominant the time he played

He is such a good basketball player too. Yeah, people dunked on him, and he got blocked by Nate and other shorter guys, but it's just a small price to pay for the rock solid - great game he brought to the court.

That big body just can't support the riggors of the NBA. His bones are probably not nearly dense enough for that stuff.
