The Knicks are perusing the league for backup candidates and have held multiple discussions with the Minnesota Timberwolves concerning Sebastian Telfair, according to an executive involved in the discussions. The Timberwolves will probably not make a move until they gauge the health of Jonny Flynn, their young point guard who recently returned from a hip injury.

------------------------------

This isn't a bad option for the simple fact that he is a young player and expiring contract so we can gauge if he is the right backup PG for this team long term. He is definitely capable of running a team effectively for short periods of time, and if he is content playing 12-15 mins a night then he may be good to resign for a few million per year. I wouldn't be surprised if we draft a PG as well, and see if they develop into a strong backup PG. There aren't a lot of great PGs in the draft, but plenty of solid ones.

It looks like to me that the Knicks are willing to enhance the bench--they know they have to do it--but they are targeting players with ending contracts.

Telfair and Ridnour play for the same team. Seems like they might be asking about both.

I think the Knicks are wiling to make the team better--but they have give no indication that they are willing to take on salary. So if we ended up with a Telfair and say a Carl Landry--its a reasonable medium.

Just a thought. Rafer Alston and Jamaal Tinsley are both free agents and could be gotten for the minimum. Both native NYers and both might have something left.

Is the general assumption that Telfair is still tied to the same Marbury family groupies?

That would be my only reservation about the kid.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Telfair is a pretty goood defender. Better ball handler than Toney but that's it. This would be a stupid move, especially given the relation to Steph.

No, there was never an indication that the Knicks were interested in Ridnour from the team. That was simply a list of players eligible to being traded. In short, a writer trying to turn almost nothing into something approaching news.

I would definitely look at Tinsley if he is in shape. The dude is only like 30-31 and was a solid point guard in his prime that just ran into a bad situation. Rafer Alston is another guy to consider. Who we really should look for is Brevin Knight. Dude is an excellent floor general. We just need someone that can keep this machine humming for 10 minutes a night, so we can get Felton's minutes down into the 33-35 range.

People don't 'run into bad situations'. He ran into a situation that exposed him for the sloppy fella he always was. Unfit to run this ELITE KNICKS TEAM!

WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. GIVE ME STARKS'S 2-21 ANY DAY OVER THIS LACKLUSTER CLUSTEREFF.

I wouldn't mind Telfair. He'd run the offense better than TD. Keep TD as a backup 1 and backup 2.

If Telfair doesn't work out, no big deal. What are we giving up? Bill Walker?

I think it'd have to be Azubuike - T'Wolves would save money on his deal if it were covered by insurance.

Azubuike is $3.3M and Telfair is $2.7M. Both are expiring contracts.

It'd basically be an admission they don't think Azubuike can play this year.

It makes sense and also gives us the opportunity to deal Douglas in a Melo trade without leaving a huge gape at PG. It would be a solid follow-up trade.

I'm not a Telfair fan(in our current situation) but we could do worse. Personally I want a savvy vet but would be okay with this
I just hope that people will like me

same. telflair played his best ball in new york, he was clutch for his high school. for those who saw the telfair documentary you will see the family takes basketball seriously. and telflair is very coach friendly, so mda would love that too.

He definitely seems like an ideal backup PG for D'Antoni. I'm sure he would thrive playing in this system as well. My only major concern is if he will be happy as a career backup playing 12-15 mins per game. Maybe he can play alongside Felton a little but i don't expect much of that. He is strickly a backup PG and would be great allowing us to keep Felton to 33-36 MPG.

i'm pretty sure he'd be thrilled to be a backup in his hometown playing for a pg friendly offense.

if anything it might lead to a bigger contract next year.
