Amare was the first one to declare that the Knicks were back. Do you think even he knew that his rebounding, shot blocking, assists, clutch shooting and leadership skills would all flourish so soon with the Knicks? Is it also possible that he could have anticipated how well Felton, Chandler, Fields and Gallo have been playing alongside of him? I personally don't see how Amare could avoid be very surprised at how well the Knicks are doing. Frankly it certainly surprises the hell out of the rest of us.

When Amare thinks about what needs fixing, I wonder if he thinks about all of the fouls he has taking to defend the interior. Wondering if instead of scoring help, which he probably thought he needed, help in interior defense, and rebounding might now be a higher priority for him? In short, is it possible that Amare is now rethinking whether Melo is the most efficient purchase to help get the Knicks a championship?

What do you think?

I don't think he's surprised because he was pretty bummed after that Houston loss, he was out of it, which kind of tells me he didn't expect to be losing the way they were losing at the time.

I sure hope he's not surprised, I hope he expected to drop buckets, cash money, and win the games of ball. It would surprise me if he is surprised by the winning.

WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. GIVE ME STARKS'S 2-21 ANY DAY OVER THIS LACKLUSTER CLUSTEREFF.

I am a very optimistic fan. But, Wilson's coming of age this year, Landry's performance as a Rookie and how fast Felton improved his pick and roll passing, and shooting are quite unexpected to me, and I don't know how Amare could have expected them?

It is true however that I expected more from AR and Mosgov, so maybe it does balance out a bit.

The Answer Man Only Speaks For Himself

Q. rvwink - What do you think?

A. The Answer Man thinks that when the Knicks were 3-8, Amar'e was more pissed than anyone on a message board.

Q. rvwink - In short, is it possible that Amare is now rethinking whether Melo is the most efficient purchase to help get the Knicks a championship?

A. Amar'e never thought about Melo in the first place. It was all a manufactured smokescreen, courtesy of Calvin Andrews. Who is Calvin Andrews? He is the agent that Carmelo fired back in June to take his services to CAA (Creative Artists Agency) in a package deal with LaLa. Cute huh?

Q. rvwink - Do you think even (Amar'e) knew that his rebounding, shot blocking, assists, clutch shooting and leadership skills would all flourish so soon with the Knicks?

A. Hard to tell what Amar'e knew. He knew his paycheck had a few extra digits and that he needed to earn his salary.

Q. rvwink - Is it also possible that he could have anticipated how well Felton, Chandler, Fields and Gallo have been playing alongside of him?

A. Not possible. Chemistry is an elusive commodity and no one expects Landry Fields to be the second coming of John Havlicek. But it could happen.

rvwink - When Amare thinks about what needs fixing, I wonder if he thinks about all of the fouls he has taking to defend the interior.

A. Amar'e does not think about what needs fixing any more than Donnie Walsh is working on his drop step and free throw technique.

Q. rvwink - Wondering if instead of scoring help, which he probably thought he needed, help in interior defense, and rebounding might now be a higher priority for him?

A. Amar'es priority is beating midtown traffic tomorrow, stretching properly and making certain his lenses don't fog up.

Beat Boston

The original reason for the post was that I thought that if I was Donnie Walsh the first person I would talk to about an important deal was Mike, and the second person was Amare. I thought Amare when he was originally trying to make a deal with the Knicks said that as an additional benefit, his friend Melo would like to play where he played. But it was impossible early on to know what the Knicks needed to put them over the top.

Apparently you don't think Amare's opinion is all that insightful. I know that I once read that Kobe was consulted when the Lakers proposed an important deal and thought Amare might have the same privilege. Thanks for your detailed response A.M.

The Answer Man Only Speaks For Himself

A.M., I would like to be the first to congratulate you for your excellent timing of when the new Knicks were ready to win consistently. I thought the Knicks were ready then too and I thought it humorous that people who didn't want to be disappointed actually criticized your timing. I admired your willingness to go out on a limb.

The Answer Man Never "Man's Up" Because Basketball Predictions Are Never A Good Indication of Manhood

Q. martin - Is Amare still staying thirsty?

A. Unquestionably. Let's hope he stays out of foul trouble.

rvwink - "I would like to be the first to congratulate you for your excellent timing of when the new Knicks were ready to win consistently. rv - The Answer Man gives you a flying chest bump for looking at the bright side. People who sit on their hands, waiting for some sign "the Knicks are back" via a parade or a ceremony at City Hall are missing the most fun ride in a decade. To be perfectly manly, The Answer Man expected the team trust (and rotation) issues to take until January or February to be settled. Did "our" beloved New York Knicks just go 13-1 or are we dreaming?

Amar'e must have REALLY been pissed.

Forget the "make or break" nonsense about the upcoming series of December games that threaten our NYK manhood. The Answer Man plays 'em one at a time. Win or lose, our starters are sharing the responsibility so what more could you ask from a brand new team of yoots?

Beat Boston.

Amare just let us know if he was surprised.

He said the Knicks were alot ahead of where we expected us to be. Also indirectly playing Boston as tough as the Knicks just did, confirms for Amare that the Knicks core is competitive with elite team in the league.

D'Antoni also said that they were working on making the bench more productive in the games. I wonder if they are thinking of spending cap money to buy some players without expiring contracts.

How many Knick fans this morning continue to think we need to break up our chemistry to sign Melo so that we have a chance to win a championship?

I think with Chandler, Gallinari, and Fields starting, we have three valuable pieces who are excellent now, and will be even better in a couple of years. That is why MDA had confidence in his postgame talk, that the Knicks will continue to improve this year. I also believe that the Knicks are committed to improving the quality of our bench. Not as a development squad, but to make valuable contributions night after night.

You have to get him in order to become a contender. This team is becoming very good but does not have championship upside. If you are getting Melo, hopefully you are only replacing Fields or Gallo in the starting lineup. We may be light off the bench for awhile, but our bench has been poor regardless.

If you take our current starting lineup, subtract either Gallo or Fields (whichever Denver prefers) and add Melo, then you have a strong playoff team. If we add depth to the bench (another post defender, a shooter or two, and good PG) we are a contender. You can afford to mess up the chemistry a little for that.
