Chris Sheridan, ESPN.com: Carmelo is using his leverage, and the Nuggets are absolutely not going to risk losing him for next to nothing like the Cavs and Raptors did with LeBron and Bosh. The Knicks know exactly where Melo stands and how strong his leverage is, and they are not going to gut their team to get him. Eventually it becomes a question of what is their best final offer. In my opinion it is Danilo Gallinari, Landry Fields, Eddy Curry and a No. 1 pick obtained via an Anthony Randolph trade.

there is a reason that Sheridan is a commentator who is wrong more often than he is right and also not a GM.

Replace Landry Fields with Toney Douglas or Bill Walker and we got a deal.

Fields is a deal breaker for me. Gallo/AR(First round pick)/Curry and that is pretty much it. Maybe Walker thrown in or Rautins nothing more.

thats not gutting the team? what is then?

if walsh gives up gallo, fields, ar to get melo then he's stupid. the knicks and melo have all the leverage right now, which is exactly why walsh will not give up the farm for melo. time and time again walsh has proven he's a very shrewd negotiator and he won't cave in.

all this when walsh can just sign him outright? i don't think so...

I still reject it if I'm the Knicks.

I don't understand why we would give up so much for Melo, who's going to be a FA at the end of this year anyway. What's the reasoning behind that?

We get to keep Wilson Chandler and Ronny Turiaf and extend them this summer.

Thank you! You do have to think if we sign Melo as a FA outright, we don't have $ to pay everyone so most likely Chandler goes anyway, so there's no harm in including him in a deal.

Sergio..if we sign Melo I don't think there's $ left over for Chandler. Depends on what you think Chandler can get in the open market.

It's pretty clear to me. Chandler for Melo straight up. And Curry, I guess, to make the cash money work.

we have melo, why bother extending chandler.. we could easily get a guy to put the ball in the basket as good as chandler... for cheaper to come off the bench...

Walsh is mr patience... and thank god. So while some of you guys would have happily shipped out Fields, Gallo, Chandler and AR in the preseason to get Melo, Walsh knows better.

If you guys think the Knicks are going to make a competitive offer for Melo and not include Fields your kidding yourself. Fields is the most attractive chip the Knicks have with his age (22) his contract (rookie 2nd rounder) and his maturity (4 years Stanford). Any reasonable offer will center around a pick for AR, Fields, choice of Gallo/Chandler and choice of 2 guys Douglas/Mos/Jordan/Williams with Balkman and Melo coming back.

The best bet is wait until the deadline and give Denver a take it or leave it. A lot can change but the Knicks dont need Melo. We are a game out of the 2nd seed in the east and have a top NBA ranked offense in about every category. If the Knicks are playing .600 basketball (.640 right now) at the deadline I'm offering the Nuggets Azu(insurance savings)/Curry/AR, cash, a couple 2nd rounders and thats about it. Maybe another bench guy, but no Chandler, no Gallo and no Fields.

Makes sense for Denver. In my mind though, I'd try to take one more piece out of it (preferrably Fields or Gallo) to make it worth doing.

the only ones on this forum that ever thought it would take all that to get Melo to NY are you & BRIGGS.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
