"There’s a place to discuss Melo and we all have differences of opinion – but our team is playing great basketball and we should all be able to root for the players that are here in the absence of any trade speculation.

Especially with Donnie at the helm, trade rumors should be a source of excitement, just as the Knicks themselves have been over the last 14 games."

- Rooster

"Raymond Felton, Landry Fields and Wilson Chandler sparked a very hot start for the Knicks. Chandler and Fields had 12 and 11, respectively, on a combination of downtown bombs and aggressive drives to the rim, while Felton quietly played puppet master with 6 assists in the opening period. With Amar'e neutralized for the time being (more on that in the next note), those three still managed to lead New York to an 11-point lead going into the second."

Amen. All of this talk about'Melo and who we should give up to get him is sickening. Right now, this is a balancing act. 25 games into the season and everyone's a GM. Let DW do what he do. He's got along fine without all of this imput. Enjoy the ride.

The answer is no.

We could have a 20 game winning streak and after losing game 21 people would be saying- "We could have won 25 with Melo on the team!"

Well, I'm not sure if Melo would make the Knicks a better regular season team THIS year - I do think that Carmelo is a better 1 on 5 scorer than anyone on the team except for Amare. That ability to draw fouls and manufacture points is what to me could set him apart as a playoff difference maker.

Assuming it would take either Chandler or Gallo to get him, how many points would he average on the Knicks with Amare pushing 30ppg nightly? Let's put it this way, with Amare in the alpha scorer role, do you necessarily need a #2 guy scorer averaging 20+ppg, or is having a bunch of 15+ppg guys around him a better approach? Right now Felton/Gallo/Chandler are deeply in the mix, as is Fields.

Right now we've got a nice 5-man game. We're different from those really good Detroit teams from the 2000's in that it's not all parity - we have a go-to guy.

This is a situation that we'll need to continue to monitor - but WHAT IF... we make it through dream week unbeaten - what will that say about our team model?

A few games ago, we were said to have had the 2nd easiest schedule from an opponent record standpoint (discounting, of course, the tremendous # of back-to-backs the Knicks have!). After 3 hard games against the Nuggets, Celtics, and Heat, would our schedule be more like 10th toughest the remainder of the way?

Its starts with Newsday--I find them to be the worst offenders in the media--and that is the communist controlled Dolan paper. Every day that guy writes about Melo. How about we have a good team and were a good bench enhancement away from being a super elite team. When you cant get a grip on reality--you tend to believe its not happening. So many people thought wed stink win 36 games--how many people thought wed win 50++ and be elite--not many but the reality is the NY Knicks are an elite NBA team that NEEDS a bench enhancement ONLY at this time. No more about melo--pure insult to the team and how its playing. I feel a Boston Celtic knockout coming--and it will be well deserved--Knicks by 15 on wed.

I think this is a case where we make a significant jump, some teams gradually get better, but i think we have been bad so long, that this will be the fastest turn around in NBA History.

The Knicks are not an elite team. We are not a tweak away from being elite either. We are a good young team, with good young players who will improve with time. However, Amare, young tho he may be, is not gonna be able to play this style of ball forever. How many years will it take for Gallo, Fields, et al to develop into really good, consistent players? And will Amare be around and dominant when that happens?

We wont be an elite team without Melo or another star player.

Look at the truly elite in the east
Boston
Miami
Orlando
Chicago

We are a full notch beneath these teams in terms of talent.
We are not a tweak or role player away from matching up with even Chicago in terms of talent.
We are more or less on par with Atlanta and firmly better than most of the rest of the east.
That makes us good and puts us in a nice spot, but we are pretty far from those top 4.

I like our team, but we need another star before we are elite. Amare and some good players, and role players wont do it.

I get exactly what Briggs and EArl are saying and agree 100%. Sure it's great to speculate about trades that bring us Melo and Paul and Howard and Michael Jordan(circa 1996) but why can't we put that aside to talk about the current team. These guys are young, on fire, playign hard, standing up to anyone and everyone and not backing down. Giving us max effort every night and winning night after night and all we can talk about is trading half of them away for Melo.

Give it a rest and enjoy what we have.

I just hope that people will like me

agreed... I got to chant "M V P" Sunday. It's December. It is awesome.

That said, what's the guarantee the team continues at this pace? Now might be the best time to cash out and get a proven blue chip player and ensure the team is really good for a while

This is what we ALL pined for the past few years. Now we got it goin on. Let's enjoy it and consider the Donnie Walnuts improvements to be icing on the cake. This team has exceeded all of our expectations. And ain't it just grand?

Imagine if we didn't trade the pick that became Pippen and he played with Ewing instead of Jordan?

I bet a few knicks would make some hands hurt shaking hands at the HOF with all those rings on their fingers yes in deedie!

Lamenting what could be is almost like it being true!

If we are 16 and 9 them we'd be 19 and 6 fur sure no doubt with melo!

Marv, whats the real human condition on this?
