If the right trade comes up, you have to pull the trigger, regradless. The seaon is so up and down, just 2 weeks agai we had the coach fired, Amare was overpaid and Felton was accussed of having tunnel vision and couldn;t run the pick and roll. This is actually a good time to trade while the players value is up. Of course we are not going to trade just to be trading, but IF Melo becomse a available, you have to pull the trigger redarless of our win streak.

i don't think anything will get done until the deadline anyway, so we just have to hope that our players are all trending up instead of trending down when that time comes around... but i agree w/u, u always want to try & trade players when their value is high, not low... this is why we need to be getting AR some playing time because right now his trade value is at an alltime low... IF the plan is to get Melo, then we need to start thinking about getting our assets increased trade value before the deadline hits... if the plan is not focused on Melo & DW thinks that not disrupting the team chemistry right now is more important, then we can afford to keep things status quo.

You hit it on the head with AR. Not sure why AR cant get Mozgovs minutes. Moz clearly isn't ready and I see any coorelation between AR being yanked and suddenly we hit our longest streak. Eventhough he wasnt playing well, AR wasn't the reason we were losing games.

Timo has been playing C for years and has shown in the FIBA games and in the NBA that he is at the least an NBA C. He may have trouble with fouls, but there's no doubt that he is an NBA C. Most of his fouls come on help D. When he's playing his own man he shows himself to be up to the task. I don't recall AR ever looking so good as a C for us. He is good as a help Defender, but when has he really been in the paint going toe to toe with a real C like Timo does?

I think we need to see how we fare against the elite teams next week and evaluate the players. I prefer to wait out the season and get Melo via free agency. If he really wants/needs NY. Then he won't jeopardize our building blocks.

if Timo were putting up the #'s that AR put up last year in GS, we wouldn't be having this conversation... but so far Timo hasn't been able to contribute squat in the minutes he's played... AR hasn't either but at least he's shown in the past that he can at the NBA level... no offense, but you have nothing to base your assumptions on that Moz is an NBA C other than SL play, which usually means nothing anyway.

You can't go into this like Isiah, you can't just stockpile talent. Winning teams aren't built around stockpiled individual talent, they're built around strong connections between the team members. It's all about the connections in a system, not about any individual part.

what connections in the system has Mozgov displayed to tell u that he deserves playing time over AR? just curious... when i see him play he looks pretty horrendous.

He's a better person, he's more mature. He understands his role and is working towards that. AR thinks he's Kevin Durant, he doesn't know his role.

BOTH have been awful, but Timo has been less so than AR. You really can't use the stats AR had in GS since he's been awful here on this team. It's not even close in terms of what he could be doing and what he hasn't done since coming here. I'm not saying that Timo has looked great, just that he's at least been useful in some areas we need a C to do. He's had some good moments on the court that give you hope. What has AR done? I think Timo's size and how he uses that size on D, has at times looked better than anything AR has done since coming here.

Look neither guy has been good, but in comparing the two Timo has looked better and he certainly held his own during FIBA play. I get more of a sense that Timo is closer to being able to produce as a backup C than AR has looked so far.

i've never met either of them so i have no idea what kind of people they are... i guess you have... i buy into the understanding your role part of it, but what good is understanding your role if you're no good at it? Mozgov's job is to defend & rebound... he does neither... he blocks an occasional shot but his defensive rotations are horrible & he has no rebounding instincts whatsoever from what i've seen out of him so far this year... i'm sure a lot of that has to do with rookie jitters, but right now it's very hard to justify him getting minutes over a guy that has a much higher upside IMO.

TMS I agree that AR has vastly higher upside and he's shown that in the past. I also think that we have a need for a big REAL Center to help against the big REAL C's in the league and AR isn't being groomed for that role. He's a PF and against smaller lineups he can play some C. I haven't seen anything about how he plays that suggests anything else. I do expect that if he's not traded, that AR will have some much better games for this team. He's got all the talent to do so. The reason that he's not playing tho, is cuz he's not able to fit in without blowing up the flow. Timo may not be doing a lot himself, but there are times when he's out there that he's doing OK and with just some minor tweaks he could be doing a decent job. If Timo simply caught more of his passes and was able to convert or get fouled he would put up some nice numbers. It won't take much for him to calm down and actually do that. He passes well, sets picks, defends and runs the floor well. Sure he makes mistakes, but fewer than AR. I'm pulling for both of them.

You can tell what kind of person each is by their comments. AR is a guy that doesn't take responsibility for himself, he blames his situation on other people instead of blaming himself for his situation with other people. That's a cowardly man. Mozgov, he is with the beef, he takes his role and accepts it, he runs with it and does his best to work hard, so he gets time in game, AR doesn't want to work hard, he wants time handed to him. That's a terrible attitude. You can't just count talent in upside, you have to count attitude, too. That diminishes his upside.

maybe he does have a crappy attitude... that would explain his lack of playing time... it's hard to judge when you're not in practice... hopefully AR gets it into his head that he's not going to get any minutes here until he conforms to the way MDA wants him to play & practice.

We're going to have to use bigs more during this stretch, so we'll have a good look at one or both of them.

I think Moz and AR are relatively even prospects, especially for a team thgat already has rebounding.

They both effectively give possessions away right now. AR can score in a variety of ways and can rebound if he's asked to be in position for it.

Moz changes the opponent's plans on offense because he's going to either block your shot or hack the crap out of you. Even with him struggling on offense right now, there's a certain value in that disruptive ability. I have seen his offense in FIBA so I'm not worried about that. Really, the only thing that concerns me is his rebounding. That's more of a natural skill and it seems like he's going to have to be taught how to do it well.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I agree... but I always give the Camby example. He was NOT a good rebounder out of UMass or with the Raps. It wasnt until JVG's crew got into him did he become of the league's best

Right now, I think you make minor trades to tweak the line-up. The Knicks have proven that they can beat the bottom tier of the league, which in my opinion should be enough to make the playoffs, now the front office gets to see where they stand against the higher echelon and what they need to do to get at that level.

Without ever seeing what Rautins is capable of doing, and not convinced that T.Douglas is a 1, I still think the Knicks priority is not Melo, but acquiring a back up point guard.

MDA/Walsh discuss whether its a bad time to trade....
