i gotta admit, that shot changed my fandom back to being positive about the knicks. being a former season ticket holder and lifetime knicks fan, something changed in me during the isaiah years. i felt the direction of the team under dolan and zeek was the antithesis of what NY basketball was historically about. thus, i found myself no longer caring about the team - i dropped my season tickets package and even started looking at other teams to replace the passion that i once had for the knicks. at that time, i said to myself, i couldnt realistically go back to routing for this team until all reminants of isaiah's bad decisions were gone.
over the past couple of weeks it's been happening slowly...prior to two weeks ago, i hadnt turned on the tv to watch a knicks game in 3 yrs. then i'm sitting on the couch one day channel surfing and i happen to catch a knicks game - wknd game against the clippers - and i gotta tell you that as im sitting there watching this game and a strange thing happened. unintentionally, i started routing for the team. i saw griffin dunking, then saw amare coming right back and flushing dunks on people's heads (wanna say he had like 39 or 40 points and double digit rebounds that game). the knicks rallied in the 4th to win the game. in the weeks that followed, i started following them on tv again, tuning in to catch part of the game, then tuning in to watch a whole quarter, then a hole game. before i knew it my fandom was back. fast forward to last night where the process came full circle....me, fish and marv are having dinner with our ladies last night, and i got the gamecast going on my phone the whole time (and at one point in the fourth when it was tight, screaming at my girl for turning the cablebox off at home b/c i cldnt slingbox the rest of the game on my phone at dinner)...
the motto of 'if you love something set it free and if it comes back to you then it was meant to be' certainly played out btwn me and the knicks the past 4 yrs and i'm finally glad 'it came back to me'.
to me, that final shot by felton last night symbolizes the complete makeover for the knicks. we used to be a team that got the wrong end of the stick EACH AND EVERY TIME during isaiah's tenure. we would NEVER win a close game like that (and some others over this stretch i.e.: minny game, etc) during the old regime. the breaks just went against us all the time.
it's nice to finally see the shoe on the other foot for a change. things are looking good for the knicks and i'm glad to be back and a part of it again.
