WE would have been absolutely doomed if we were paying Joe 100M+ and Amare. Those two together arent even as good as Felton + Amare and we still have room for more now.

We all knew Joe J wasnt close to a Max player glad the Hawks didnt

He's an overrated scorer but he's still a very good player. Definitely not worth a max. Everyone knew he wasn't worth 120 mill or anywhere even remotely close to that(well not everyone haha). I'm not gonna lie. I didn't have a ton of faith in this team and I would have pulled the trigger after we missed out on the south beach boy. I'm very glad we didn't. That would have been a desperation move. Thankfully Atlanta is locked into him and now at some point they are gonna try moving that contract. I'd much rather keep our options open and aim for Melo or someone higher caliber.

I am thankful every day we didn't sign him- what I don't understand is we Atlanta did- he's already on the decline, and the team peaked last year- I really don't get why they signed him to that contract, but they're going to regret it for a long, long time.

Is he on the decline or was he just playing injured? He was pretty good last year.

yeah, the board was pretty much in agreement about Joe not being a max cat. One has to wonder what Hawks management were thinking giving him those dollars after 2strait post season no show performances.

I guess they felt they were too young to think about rebuilding but, as constructed they will never be more than a 1st round knock out. Horford is too small to man the middle, Joe too inconsistent and Bibby is old, injury prone and shot happy.

They have valuable pieces but, unless they are willing to part with Josh, they will never improve. Horford needs to be playing PF not C and losing out on Shaq didn't help.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

he actually would have been perfect here, but not at that price and not at the expense of losing the guys we got in the Lee trade.

Its all about the cost sometimes, and it certainly affects the fan's perception of players. JJ is a 5x all star and a damn good player. But he's in the Allan Houston class, not the Kobe/Wade class.

You just cant have that much money tied into a player like that.

Exactly, I dont think he is bad, he clearly is a top scorer but as you can see from the Hawks being 4-1 without him, he doesnt really help you win many games since he shys away in the clutch

If Joe was a Knick I would have stopped caring about basketball for 6 years

Going 4-1 has more to do with the fact that they have several very good players.

Yeah, a good team can rally without one of their best players. They may even continue being a good team. However, JJ is too good for them to go far without. They are going to need him back. Last years playoffs were a fluke as well. They'll be better if he's healthy.

lol. I don't know. I'm just not impressed with Johnson and his game. He's good, no doubt. But I see Will having many 20 point games which I find more impressing.

not that i wanted joe johnson for the max, but because the hawks have gone 4-1 w/o him does not suddenly make him an overrated player.

Chandler has been solid but Joe Johnson is a beast when he is on and he can actually play SG.

I didnt want Joe Johnson for the Max because I dont think he is going to be max worthy for the length of the contract.

JJ is one of the best iso players in the league, flat out. Sometimes the ball dies with him, but he also gets a ton of assists of his iso play. He's great at making moves, drawing defenders and hitting open men.

He's just not work $17mm. Its insane. We could have had Felton AND Lee for that price. Its just not logical. The guy can really play. He would be GREAT on a team like the Nets with size that lacks scoring and playmaking.

Hes a good defender rebounder also... he really has one of the better games in the league. Picture a better passing Mike Finely in his prime. Problem is that prime aint going be for another 6 years

He would have been good at a lesser price and if we had the cap space for him, stoudemire, and felton, but clearly having felton instead is better value because of his play so far this year, his contract being much more reasonable, and being a PG.
