Harry (Babylon, NY)

Is this Raymond Felton's breakout year similar to Chauncey Billups when he landed in Detroit?

David Thorpe (12:33 PM)

Great call!!
-----------------------------------

This is from today's ESPN chat. Do you expect him to become a perennial all-star in this system? He had similar numbers as Billups his last season before the breakout. Then after averaging 12.5 pts and 5.5 asts, Billups went on to become a 4-time all-star because the system fit him perfectly. Is that what we are seeing from Felton in the near future?

He was groomed down in NC, then was trained with Larry Brown, now it's his time to excel with MDA, this is the begining of his prime.

I was thinking the same thing. He has blossomed and seems to be in a great situation. Hopefully the Knicks go on a Pistons like run with Billups.

I was actually thinking that just yesterday. Tough guy, makes big shots. Smart well rounded player who isn't considered elite but can play with the best. I always liked Felton but I honestly never thought he would play at the level he is when we signed him.

He is also a much more consistent shooter than i thought. He is high volume, but i really believe he is a 37-38% 3-point shooter overall, not the low 30s he has been for most of his career. That was his major knock coming into this offense, and i think he is proving that is really is a very good outside shooter.

I love how he gets over picks. We have not seen that from a pg since the days of Ward and Childs.

26 years old at PG is a still a viable place to take a big next step. His offense has impressed me, his defense has been great but I expected that.

One of the Bobcat's fans knocks on Felton was he's had some very bad playoff series, and last year was badly outplayed by Jameer Nelson.

We will see!
