I've made this comparison before, but Amar'e joining the Knicks reminds me of when Chris Webber joined the Kings

...Both guys took a complete also-ran team and made it an instant playoffs team and eventually a title contender.

There are plenty of comparisons between those Kings teams and this Knicks team:

Amare ~ Webber - Both game-changing power forwards who changed the culture of a losing club and became leaders for the first time in their career. Obviously, Amar'e is a little more established than Webber was when he went to the Kings, but I think they both had a significant and similar impact on changing the culture of the team first and then piling up more Ws.

Felton ~ Bibby - Both high draft pick point guards who somewhat disappointed early in their career, but needed time to find their games and needed to find the right offense in which they could excel. Bibby definitely found it in Sacramento, it seems Felton may be on his way to becoming a leader and a clutch scorer. As a bonus, he's a better playmaker than Bibby was in Sacto.

Gallo ~ Peja (or maybe Hedo) - The shooter, killer from the wing who starts to learn to expand his game. Gallo has been slumping lately, but I still think he can do it.

Toney ~ Bobby Jackson - Toney also has been slumping a bit lately, but he could be our Bobby Jackson - a slashing combo guard off the bench with a deadly jumper. Can score in bunches and play harassing D.

Landry Fields ~ Doug Christie - People think of his wife being looney tunes when they think of Christie now, but he was actually an elite defender and rebounder from the SG position for the Kings. He hit timely jumpers and did all the little glue things needed to propel the Kings. Landry is showing many of the same qualities, with no crazy wife... yet!

Turiaf ~ Scott Pollard - Okay, maybe this comparison is a little thin - but they're both tough backup centers - good rebounders who do a lot of things that don't show up in the boxscore. And they both have awesome facial hair.

Wilson ~ okay, the Kings had no one like Wilson, but that makes up for the fact that we don't have anyone like Vlade.

Maybe not a direct correlation, but I see similar things. That Kings team was one of my favorite non-Knicks team ever and this team is starting to remind me of them.

We're missing the Divac. Divac was big for the Kings, he was the smoothest passing center in all of the land.

those kings team created shots for each other really well. i think they all averaged 5 assists a game( with the exception of peja since he was just more catch n shoot and even then i think he averaged 3) which is quite an accomplishment and made them very unique.

we're not like that...

Turiaf can be our Divac-lite.

I like the comparison. We don't play the same style offensively as those Sacramento Kings (a lot more reliant on post-play and offense run through their big men), but we got a similar roster nonetheless.

Not a bad comparison. Like the Fields/Cristie comparison aswell. At the time, the Kings ran a new (to the NBA), inovative set with the Princeton offense while we run MDA's uptempo style which also utilizes ball movement and some backdoors.

Kings ran a pretty variation of the Princeton offense and had a great high low game. They had the smoothest offense in the NBA and everyone could shoot the ball there. That was a great team to watch that got absolutely hosed in the NBA lore.

I remember those Lakers-Kings playoff series back in the early 2000s. Those were the days. Intense, fun games to watch. Those Sacramento teams are in the top-10 teams of the decade.

Lets just hope the comparison falls short of the knee troubles that plagued Webber at the tail end.

That's a cool comparison, I like it. Many people hopped aboard the Kings bandwagon at that era, they were really fun to watch.

just hopin' the Knicks can run even further than the Kings ever did in the playoffs!

Good post! Very weird how we do compare with Sacramento. Let's just hope if we eventually do get to the ECF, we don't get screwed by the zebras. The Kings should have won it all in 2003.

This also reaffirms my conviction that if Adelman becomes available, I'd dump D'Antoni in a heartbeat for him. I actually think we're very suited for the Princeton offense.

hopefully Amare and whoever stick at C learn to pass as well as Webber and Divac. I remember those two were awesome finding cutters of high posts.
Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please
