Memphis does this because they need to resign Gasol and Zach who are in the final year of their contracts. OJ has fallen out of the starting guard spot. They get cap room to help resign players plus they get AR & Walker for one more yr on a rookie contract.

Knicks get a legit back up defensive minded center who can rebound, block shots and run and hit a 10 to 12 ft jumper plus a SG to complement Landry and free up 2 roster spots.

Two of those guys have three major knee surgeries between them and another destroyed his wrist and can't shoot anymore. I don't think you get Mayo in a package like that. Thabeet for Randolph might interest them.

Mayo is out of favor in Memphis even from last year.....

Now he is like 3 option at SG on Memphis......

AC Law just got cut maybe for a trade?

4 for 2 or 2 for 1?

I see Mayo somewhere new b4 deadline!!

KNICKS on the way UP!!!

You know what, that ain't terrible --- we'd be getting 2 guys that could help us. At the moment it looks like both guys have fallen out of favor in Memphis somewhat...I think it would take more than Anthony Randolph & a second round pick to get this done however but it's a pretty good thought...We are talking two former lottery picks -- Memphis is gonna want something a little more substantial I would think (as in a 1st rounder thrown in minimum along with a couple of 2s or Wilson Chandler possibly)...I could definitely see both guys coming over revitalized and having an impact for us. That would probably put an end to all the Carmelo Anthony talk however. We're gonna have to give up some assets in this deal, no way around that --- and then it's a matter of the cap being impacted -- both guys are still on their rookie deals yet make about $10M between them right now..and then we'll have to pay both guys in 2 years..Both would be due substantial raises at that time I'm thinking, esp. Mayo (all depending on how they play once coming over of course--I feel Mayo in particular would excel here next to Amar'e if we feature him as our #2 guy)..There's the matter of retarding Fields' development somewhat -- I guess Landry would have to come off the bench...Or do you continue to start Fields & bring Mayo off the bench once he got here?? Humm..One positive -- there would still be some cap left over to add another FA or 2 to the mix during the summer, maybe not a Melo, but something decent..We'd have to ask ourselves -- is a STAT, Mayo, Felton + MLE FA core good enough to win it all?? Over a a STAT/Melo/Felton core??? That'd be an interesting debate...I'd love Melo but OJ Mayo does have serious talent..and imagine if we ever got Thabeet going to the point where he's a productive NBA center??

If we're ever serious about doing something like this, even a deal for Melo eventually, I really think we have to start thinking about playing Anthony Randolph a little bit..Dude has ZERO trade value right now..Not only could he be a missing piece that could actually help us right now God forbid, we really need to play the guy a little to get his trade back up to snuff..If we contine to let him rot, he won't be worth diddly in any trade..

Hasheem Thabeet still needs a lot of development on his game & we already have enough to deal w/in the project player department in Mozgov... i like OJ Mayo but MEM won't give him up readily... i don't think a package of bench filler, Anthony Randolph & a gimpy Azabuike will entice MEM to give up on those 2 players... anyway we're already glutted at the SG position as it is... i wouldn't mind offering up AR & TD for Mayo & a future #1 from them... not sure they'd bite but i think it's not a bad trade off for either team... that trade would also keep us in the running for a possible Melo trade w/the added 1st round pick.

good call, ar/td is a safe bet, if they bite they bite. i wouldn't risk going all-in on mayo to lose out on melo.

I'm not that high on Thabeet. I'd rather just trade for Mayo alone, unless Memphis is gifting Thabeet to us for very little.

AR/TD plugs some holes for Memphis (losing Zach next year, and they have no backup PG -- and we can probably fool them into thinking TD is a backup), so if we can get Mayo for that package, we should definitely pull the trigger.

I'm not high on him either- however I seem to remember Walsh was very interested in him back when he was drafted, but we had no shot at him because our pick was too late. Also I think the grizzlies would love to give him away for free- their manager is fuming at having to pay him so much considering he is producing nothing- thats why he held out on giving the contract to this years draft pick during the summer, and wants the CBA changed to reduce a rookies salary if they don't perform well.

Mayo and Thabeet are definitely obtainable (I wish Gasol was too, but I'm not so sure), and I suspect that if Melo gets traded to the Nets or whatever, then Mayo would be the back up plan (Walsh really wanted him too and even set up a trade involving David Lee if you remember). I'd use him as our sixth man if we got him.

Mullens and Maynor, two UK favorites when they were predraft prospects... what would it take to get them in here? Would be tough to find two players who are better fits that you'd think would be gettable from one team.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)
