I think he is probably not attainable and wouldve been perfect--I think if there was a chance to make that happen--its time has come and passed.

Other guys I would look at that are attainable and possibly cheap

Carl Landry(he would be #1 at this point because hes battle tested and I dont see where hes going with the kIngs)
Marreese Speights
Darrel Arthur
Nazr Mohammed(ending at 6.8mm)
Craig Smith
Tyrus Thomas--I would be willing to spend the long term green on him.

We need a piece--to bad we didnt jump on Thompson when there was light there. I dont agree with taking a passive stance becasue there will be other teams trying to get an available post guy who can play. I still think Landry would be the best bet because of cost pass production age contract.

Tyrus is probaly the most valuable and useful from that bunch because he defends well. Mosgov ain't ready, and Turiaf is way too injury prone. A guy like Thomas would definitely take some of the defensive load off of Amar'e.

He definitely plays with some hops as well, which makes him a good fit for the Knicks imo.

Outside of a backup PG all we are missing is a HEALTHY starting center. Mos isn't ready yet, but I can live with giving him 10 minutes a night. Wouldn't mind seeing some of Randolph though.

We need the right kind of center though as Amare needs space in the middle. So, we need a center who can hit the J and operate away from the basket but more so defend well. We don't need two scorers under the net. I think this is why the coach is sticking with Mos. Curry in all his ineptitude wouldn't make as many mistakes as Mos, but he plays where Amare plays.

I think you are right about targeting Sacramento. They have a lot of bigs and Westphal is having problems with Cousins. If the Knicks could somehow get Landry, Thompson or Cousins from them I think it would be a huge improvement for the team.

I'm okay with the latter two, definitely not Landry though. I like Landry, but the Knicks need size. I know they have a bunch of height, but there's little size. Someone that'll bring back the no layup rule. A banger. Not some finesse style big.

The Knicks need someone to knock down an outside shot, a back up point guard, and a center that can rebound and bang. I certainly hope a 6'6" PF isn't on the wishlist. Wilson Chandler can give us that.

I think you can cross Carl Landry off the list too, as the latest rumours according to hoopsworld (I know, no guarantee) is that the rockets want him back and may even be willing to trade Brooks to get him. I doubt they do actually trade brooks, but if the rockets have an interest in Landry then we're screwed because they have more tradeable assets than us. I guess the Kings are going with Thompson as their PF for the foreseeable future.

I wish we could of got Ty Chandler during the offseason, but unfortunately the Mavs were keen to get him. I'm not sure about trading for those players you mentioned (though I'll admit I haven't really watched Craig Smith or Darrel Arthur). Hmm, at this point I'd rather just cut/trade for nothing Mason Jr and either sign a d-league player, or see if Josh Boone wants to join us from China, and then make a move nearer the trade deadline once we know whats happening or at the very least can cut Eddy Curry (at long last!).

I'd love Carl Landry in a Knick Uni. The question is what would we have to give up.

We dont need another scoring big. We need someone who can play defense and rebound and maybe knock down an open jumper. Amare is our go to guy in the post. Turiaf is hurt and doesn't rebound or score. And Mosgov is just playing terrible on offense and doesn't rebound either.
cheers
