a lot of factors go into it, but what makes elite teams great is they always seem to win the games they should. This is an oversimplification, but figure half the league is winning teams, the other half losing. If you always beat the losing teams and just split against the winning teams your record is 61-21
I'm very very happy with the Knicks. We have a star player, a true leader at PG. We have a bunch of very young good versatile players.
the strength of this team is size, scoring and depth.
With Felton/Gallo/Amare/Chandler you have 4 guys who can give you 30 any night. They all seem happy to let whoever has the best matchup go off for that night. When Gallo scores a dozen, Chandler had 25 and vise versa.
We are getting 33/11 a night from Chandler/Gallo and between the 4 main guys there seems is a nice balance. Stop one guy the other guy goes off.
I think to be an elite team you need that star who can impress his will on the game, and Amare is that guy, but I dont believe you must have that 2nd star. I 100% you can win and be elite with size/skill/depth like Detroit did, but you must attack on defense and control the boards.
We have all the pieces here, but some need to cook more. Douglas has been inconsistant and I know he can be much better. Mosgov/AR will be good NBA players but just need more time. Gallo/Field/Chandler are a great combo package of do all 2-way players with good size, skill and versatility all under 23 years old.
right now everything is happening EXACTLY how its supposed to. Amare and Felton are showing the younger guys how to win night to night in this league.
If your Gallo/Chandler/Fields/etc and your watching Felton with his flu and gimpy back busting his balls for 50+ minutes for a double OT win on the road your learning what it takes to win. Talent doesnt get you **** in this league. You gotta bust it like a maniac night in and out.
Sure, it would be nice to get more out of AR. Sure, it would be nice if Mos could stay on the floor, but I really feel like he have something here worth waiting on and developing.
