Most would give the Knicks a pretty heavy chance to be a winning team this year. I didn't even expect them to be above .500 this soon. I thought they'd be close, but still trying to figure it out. The fact that they've been winning without Turiaf and no real contributions from AR and with Timo faltering, is pretty impressive.

At some point Knick fans have to accept that this is real. There are only so many above .500 teams in the league and the rest are teams we should be able to beat. Especially in the East!

he's definitely been the best FA to successfully impact his team so far.

He has a chip on his shoulder - definitely out to prove he is great. We won out on FA - I remember a lot of people being unhappy/unsure of this guy but he is really balling out there.

STAT is the most valuable player in the division, hands down. Rondo is the best player on Boston, but if you take him out, they're still a solid team.

You take Amar'e off of the Knicks roster, and we're headed for the lottery again.

Check out compared to the "other" best big man in the East:

Amar'e Stoudemire Dwight Howard
PPG 23.4 22.6
RPG 8.6 11.9
APG 2.5 1.3
SPG 0.8 1.1
BPG 2.1 2.4
FG% 0.507 0.598
FT% 0.762 0.538
MPG 36.2 34.4

He's definitely stacking up.

actually, his many of his per game numbers are better. you posted those from before last night's game:

now it's

24.6 ppg
8.7 rpg
2.4 apg
1 spg
2.0 bpg
0.523 fg%
.767 ft%
36.42 mpg

Panos,

Stat could have better numbers than Howard, but he still woudln't get it because one of the major factors that go into MVP considerations is the amount of wins that player's team has. Orlando is looking like a 55+ win team, while the Knicks are looking like a team with wins in the 40s.

As of now, the top candidates are Rondo, Howard, Westbrook, and Maybe Dirk. Kobe will probably top that list once the Lakers get out of this little skid they're in.

Not sure if anyone on the Spurs is worthy of it despite their success thus far. I don't see Duncan or Parker getting it.

Right now the top 3 MVP candidates are Amare, Dirk and Rose IMO.

If StatVP wins the MVP, Carmelo has to sign with the Knicks, right?

NJN 35 9 1 2

If he continues to block shots and keeps the turnovers down, I don't see why he can't be considered for MVP if the Knicks have a significant turnaround this season.

We don't have to have a great record but a tremendous amount of total wins compared to last year. He needs to be the key to us winning a few games that everyone counts us out of. Miami, Boston, Orlando. Beat these guys. Some how someway.

STAT named Player of the Week for second time

Alan Hahn wrote: Amar'e Stoudemire earned his second NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor after he averaged 33.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per game and shot 58.8 percent from the floor in the three Knicks wins. The NBA follows a Monday-to-Sunday schedule, so the games that factored in were the Nets (Tuesday), Hornets (Friday) and Raptors (Sunday).
Stoudemire, who earned Player of the Week honors for the week ending Nov. 21, is the first Knick to earn multiple P.O.W. honors in the same season since Patrick Ewing was named three times during the 1992-93 season.
Of course it's very early in December, but let's point out now that Ewing is the last Knick to earn NBA Player of the Month honors (Jan. 1995, his last of five). As for MVP, well, it's been 40 years since the Knicks' only MVP, Willis Reed, in 1969-70.
I'm curious to see how Garden crowd receives Stoudemire tonight against the Timberwolves. Stoudemire has played like a legit MVP candidate, which the Knicks haven't had since Ewing set up office in the paint.
Stoudemire was selected over several star-level nominees, such as LeBron James, who had a huge homecoming performance in Cleveland on Thursday, plus Dwyane Wade and Kevin Garnett.

If Amare beasts again tonight, I plan on starting 5 MVP chants at the Garden....true story

STATVP pulled one out of a rabbit hat in minny game.

game showcased the knicks greatest flaw and (new) greatest strength.

flaw-- making scrub team look like rockstars. new strength-- ending the nite with the W.

I don't know how long Amare can continue at this pace but he could certainly make a run at the scoring title. 67/111 from the field in his last 5 games. He is in a ZONE right now.
