Can anyone remember a team getting burned back-door more times than the Knicks were last night? Maybe one of Princeton's opponents back when they were great? Or one of Hoosiers' victims? Great win. Gutty play by Felton, Amar'e, even Gallo in the 2nd OT. But we really made it a lot harder on ourselves than we needed to -- and I really don't want to have to hear Clyde say, "See the man, see the ball" another 15 times next time we play.

No, I can't remember but that said, it's good that it happened now so it likely won't happen again in the future.

It only won't happen if the coach goes over it in practice. Most of our improvements in overall defense seem to be based on having better athletes this year as opposed to the coach's philosophy on defense.

I think a lot of our defensive struggles right now have to do with our inclination to double/trap as often as possible. I remember D'Antoni practicing that during training camp. Obviously the goal is to force turnovers and get out on the break, but more often than not, all the doubling we do is leading to broken defensive rotations where teams end up either finding the open man, or our defenders are scrambling to keep up with the ball movement.

Moreover, it seems D'Antoni wants our perimeter defenders to play up close and harass the ballhandler...and if they get beat off the dribble, Chandler/Amare/Turiaf have to be ready with the help defense (which they've done a good job of this year). But a lot of times, this strategy backfires cause once our perimeter D breaks down and Chandler/Amare/Turiaf have to step out to help protect the paint, their man becomes open for the easy dish/cut.

Honestly, don't know why we don't clog the paint more often, especially in the 4th. Dare teams to beat us with jumpers, like they do to us.

It happened several times in the first half of the portland game as well.

To me we need to have a defensive system where someone is always boxing out the opposing teams best rebounder. We have too many guys going for blocks at the same time. Now don't get me wrong, I prefer this team's defense to last years matador D led by _avi_ Lee, but because Lee never went for the block, he was always in position to rebound.

We need to assign roles on defense based on their position in the box. If you are the assigned weak side shot blocker, another person has to step in and make sure to box your man out if that guy is the other teams primary rebounder.

Rose is not the answer.
