So after six breakthrough quarters, in which he looked very much like a potential star, the 22-year-old Gallinari swiftly punctured the notion of his stardom.

“I know you expect a lot from me, and people expect a lot from me,” Gallinari said late Wednesday night, “but I’m not a superstar, I’m not an All-Star, I’m not LeBron, I’m not those great players. I’m an important player of the Knicks. And that’s what I’m trying to do, to help the team every time. Sometimes, can be these type of games, sometimes not. But as long as we win, it’s all good.”

..............................

D’Antoni interpreted Gallinari’s remarks as overstated modesty.

“He’s very secure in who he is and he’s very confident,” D’Antoni said. “He can tell you one thing, but he may think another. But I think he knows he has a lot of work to do to get where those guys are. He’s not up there. I don’t think that says he can’t get there, he’s just not them yet.”

He sure tries to play like he's an all star type. Thinking he can take over games by himself sometimes...

when i first read something to that effect a week ago, i thought "damn, this kid is shook." when i saw the comments again today, i thought the same thing d'antoni thought. this is a show of false modesty.

whether he says he's a star or not is not what will make him a star. only his play can do that. when marbs was rambling about being the best, did that make him the best? no.

Yeah, I'm looking at it the way you are, but in the back of my mind I can't shake the feeling that he doesn't know how good he can be.

This is definitely a far cry from "I'm the best point guard in the NBA". Personally, I think modesty is underrated and I'm happy to see he's exercising it. I wouldn't read more into it than the kid has respect and he will only take an accolade when he has earned it. Very team mentality. I like it.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

while I agree this is true, we want to have it both ways.

We all kill Marbury for saying he is the best PG in the league. Ewing is killed for making so many outlandish predictions of winning.

So which is it? We kill our players for not predicting their greatness or are we killing our players when they do?

don't forget that gallo is probably aware of what harrington said regarding the team promoting him as a star. maybe gallo would prefer to be treated as normal player and let his play do the talking. just trying to see the bright side.

Gallo said it all in his comments....

" I just want help THIS team THIS coach THIS city win"

Gallo was def bothered by the trade rumors and it showed.....

It was like he wanted to de-value himself so that he can remain here!... Kid is from Milan and totally doubt Denver
is appealing to him.

That is no excuse but it was obvious from just his facial and body language he was not happy!

KNICKS on the way UP!!!

Personally I could care less what the players say. I didn't even have a problem with what Marbs said. I think it was silly because he could not back it up, but it didn't really bother me. The only reason why this sits in the back of my head is because there clearly are nights were it seems like Gallo is content being one of the guys, when it's painfully obvious that we need him to do more. Hopefully these last five games are a trend and we can look back at these comments as just humility.

I read it as this:
"quit bothering me and expecting me to be Lebron. I'm Gallo."

Did he look soft taking Battier (elite defender) off th dribble and throwing down a facial? Did he look soft taking 17 FTs against the Kings?

Whats he 22? Let the guy be the player he's going to be. I see a guy who works hard and plays hard. There is no Keith Van Horn in him. He will take big shots

Personally I like what I see from him. Shots not falling so he attacks the rim. He still plays hard on defense and brings other things as well

I will say this. Last 5 games 20 points and 6 rebounds while shooting under 40%. Imagine if he gets that shooting percentage up.

I think he sounds arrogant and egotistical. "I’m an important player of the Knicks." Where does he come off saying that?

English is his second language. My father has said some pretty weird things in english but if you translate it in Filipino it made perfect sense.

Gallo couched it by saying that he wasn't those other things. To be honest I don't mind him seeing himself as an important member
of the team as long as he plays like he takes that responsibility seriously. Gallo has been all over the court the last 6(?) games, he's
expanded his game and he is playing better D although he isn't there yet.

Yeah, some of it sounded like a victory lap, I can give him a pass as long as he doesn't revert to the player he was in the beginning of the season.

It's not up to him to say he's important. He should keep his mouth closed. By keeping his mouth closed, he may also avoid losing a tooth and infecting someone's arm.

You have to feel for the kid in a sense...Media and fans are unwilling to let the kid grow into who he is...He is not a superstar...heck, he isn't a star but is projected and promoted as such...If you work in a corporate environment and you see this happening to certain individuals, knowing they have brought nothing to the table, you kind of understand where he is coming from...It breeds resentment from peers...He just wants to earn the accolades he gets...If you looks at his numbers over the last couple of years, he is just an average NBA player, nothing special, just don't tell that to the media and fans...
