“Landry did phenomenal. To be a rookie and the way he’s playing, he’s the other guy on the court that I can look forward to bringing some energy every night.”

After a recent loss (Minni i think) he had a quote about letting the team down by getting in foul trouble as the team couldn't hold the lead without him. That was his idea of accepting responsibility.

I don't think comments like this show leadership. Sounds like throwing your team mates under the bus to me.

If these guys have no desire to win in the beginning of the season then they should all GTFO with the coach. I'm sick of players coming here to relax and think it's a joke.

I support Amare calling everyone out. Ain't no sunshine an rainbows here.

Amare has always been a one way player. He's never made the effort to become a good defender.

This year he's been a turnover machine, he's missed foul shots at key points in the game and generally not played up to his Star Status. If he was a two way player and he gave his best on BOTH ends of the floor night in and night out and was playing well himself then throwing his team mates under the bus to the Press (This is different then locker room talk) would be more understandable.

As is if he should make sure he's on the road next to em when the bus comes rolling along.

Van Gundy Quote on Amare calling out his teammates:

"If you are going to call out your teammates, you have to call out yourself, too. You can't just separate yourself from the rest because if you are going to get 90 percent of the credit when you win, you have to be willing to take 90 percent of the blame when you lose. . . . The best player's responsibility is to unite and inspire your teammates to play up to their full maximum ability and that never occurs if you try to separate yourself as part of the problem."

I think Amar'e goes hard in practice and even in games. He's not a perfect player, but overall I think he's been good for us. He's been vocal and gives effort. What happens tho is that when your team is taking bad shots and missing good shots, it puts pressure on the other parts of the game like Defense & Rebounding. Amar'e is actually more of a power finesse player. He's no banger. He goes around guys, over guys and dunks on guys, but he's not out battling guys in the paint for rebounds or powering thru guys like Shaq. It's like Lee who rebounds but isn't really a power guy. He just outhustles guys to the ball. He pursues the ball and I think Amar'e could do more of that.

Thing is tho that for the most part Amar'e has been trying hard and not getting much help from his PG's or other players in certain games. When he gets help this team can win games.

It's a good quote. The one distinction that might be important here is if Amare perceived that the players were blaming their poor energy (which is what he called them out on, not execution) on the coach. Amare may have been telling the team, in not so many words, that the same coach got maximal effort from guys in Phoenix, so look within for what's not working.

I think Amare is frustrated because he didn't think it would be so hard for him to get the ball where he likes it. He has been working twice as hard as he should to get a shot off and on top of it there is a lack of urgency at times from his team. He said he has been trying to talk to them but they weren't listening. He might have gone about things the wrong way but I understand where he is coming from.
