Doc signed with the Knicks in 1992. He had already played 8 years in Atlanta, where he was a second round draft choice. After a year with the Clippers, Doc came to the Knicks with plenty of basketball experience and savvy. Yet when at the start, Doc didn't make many immediate contributions to the Knicks during his first few months there. Then he "hit his stride". In his first season, Doc took the Knicks to the conference championship against the Bulls. They got to 3 all, the Bull closed out the series. But Doc did make valuable contributions in his first year with the Knicks. Maybe the people spending time planning who the next point guard should be for the Knicks, should "sit on their hands for a couple of months". and see how the team is doing in February first.
