The Suns are expected to sign veteran center Earl Barron after learning that starting center Robin Lopez will miss several weeks because of a left knee sprain.

Barron, 29, is a 7-foot, 250-pound veteran who played 82 games (2005-08) with Miami, and seven games last season with New York.

He did not play in the NBA during the 2008-09 season.

Barron owns career averages of 5.5 points per game and 3.7 rebounds.

Barron could join the team for Wednesday's game at Miami, pending that he passes a physical. He would sign a non-guaranteed contract.

Barron averaged 11.7 points and 11.0 rebounds over seven games late last season for New York, which employs a similar system with ex-Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni.

Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby said Lopez's knee damage was "a little bit more serious than we first thought it would be."

Still don't understand why this guy isn't a Knick. We had him, saw what he could do and still didn't sign him.

He had a bad agent who over estimated his value, which is why we didn't sign him early in the offseason- thats not Donnies fault. However once he dropped his agent at the end of the offseason, we could easily have signed him for close to the minimum if we'd got rid of one of our many SG/SF who can't do what their suppose to do- thats where Donnie messed up.

I'm interested to see how he does with the Suns- it seems every player they get can play D'Antoni's system, but every player we get can't.

So true. Why is that

Top six, right after Hassan Whiteside and Anthony Randolph Jason Thompson.

Right now, Earl may be a better shooter. But I like the grit Moz brings on the defensive end, especially his "ability" to block/alter shots. Once he learns to not lean into his blocks, he will reduce those BS fouls the refs like to call on rooks/euro players.

Upside? He is easily WAY better than Earl for us long-term, with the potential to grow into the new Rik Smits. That's why we signed him instead of Earl.

The Earl of Barron I hope gets good playing time. Im glad he is back in the league.

I get what the team sees in MOZ. The execution is NOT there but the kid has the goods.

Anyone think maybe Moz needs more than 9 games to get improved?

He is not Slatko!
