I believe the Rockets have the right to swap picks, so it's their choice. Or maybe it isn't if there is a protection on the pick.

If both teams end up being awful though, it's not that bad of a deal. We'll still get a good draft pick out of it. We just need for Houston to lose and beat them on Sunday.

One of the few times RealGM is useful. They do a good job keeping their future draft pick page up to date:

http://www.realgm.com/src_future_draftpicks.php#new_york

2011 swap is top 1 protected. If Houston has a worse record, then they're obviously not going to opt to swap, and they lose the rights. Right now, Houston also losing is the only good thing about our ugly start.

2012 pick is top 5 protected, and remains top 5 protected all the way to 2015. Then it becomes 2nd rounders.

Briggs, man, i agree that the trade hurts now... but the day before the Decision you and a lot of other people were convinced Lebron had chosen New York.

They made the trade so they had a shot. And they wound up having a very real shot. It didn't work out, so we move on. The Bulls gave away Hinrich and pick 19 for the same shot.

Only bright side right now is that there is a chance the pick swap doesn't even happen.

Okay--so we atleast would have a shot at that C Kanter if we won the lottery. I think he'll end up going 1 anyway--so thats what we wouldve needed. After that there will be a multitude of PG's that may be of similar value up and down rd 1.

Guy reminds me of Tum Duncan. Huge powerful base. Agile soft touch strong hands. Not overly athletic but doesnt need to be

This trade maybe worse than the Curry. Trade it is going to result in Houston getting three lottery picks so that the Knicks had the chance to hope a player would sign here. It never made sense and I can't see Walsh doing it without Dolan and maybe Isiah pushing for it.

I refuse to dream anymore because everything we dream about or antisapate never comes true. So why get all worked up on something that will never happen. I'm going to the Nets game tonight in Newark with family and friends. I'm not a Nets fan but I am from New Jersey so let's go Nets.

Let's not blow it out of proportions. Nothing will be worse than the Curry trade in a long time.

Lost #2 pick - Lamarcus Aldridge
Lost #9 pick - Joakim Noah

Gained albatross contract that didn't even contribute on the court in the final 3 years of contract
Contract also prevented us from signing a big 3 in 2010 FA. Or even just a big 2, while keeping the picks we lost in the Jeffries trade.

that was one of the dumbest trades we've ever made... only a blind fool would see it otherwise... but correct me if i'm wrong, but weren't you 1 of the ones who were convinced that Lebron was coming here this summer?

Ugh, 1 lotto pick, as of right now. It could become 2, but it not 3 lotto picks, no way no how.

The Post has learned there's a wrinkle to the Rockets being able to swap picks with the Knicks this June. The Knicks keep the pick if they win the lottery, a source said. They also give the Rockets their 2012 pick -- protected through No. 5 till 2015.

what does everyone think? This thread is the source?
