He doesn't seem to be playing as well as earlier in the season. At this rate I would't be surprised to see Doleac in the starting linup next week. Maybe it has just been the matchups not favoring his style but I definatly have seen a dropoff.

Yeah I noticed that too. I think he'll be up and down like this until he retires. That's why Isiah went out and signed a backup C.
Isiah may not want Deke to play too much or too hard because he'd be at a greater risk of getting hurt. That can be a potential monkey wrench in whatever trade moves Isiah has already planned.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

His skills set no longer fits the running style of play that charcterizes this team.

Andrew...at first I thought the title of your thread was kind of ironic...Deke did in fact run into a wall - a great wall from China named Yao Ming!

He isnt the answer for us at the 5, he is only a temporary fill in. We need to get us a younger more athletic 5. The same problem the Nets and Philly had with Mutombo is what the Knicks are experiencing now. He just isnt fast enough anymore and isnt strong enough against elite centers.

Is it just me or does Yao look like he has put on some considerable size since last season?

deke is still going to be a VERY valuable player for us in the playoffs. the games slow down in the post season and a player like deke is definitely need if at the very least for 20mins/game. forget about the regular season. the ideal situation is to have a center like stromile playing the majority of minutes and have deke off the bench - maybe next season.

i have no problems with dikembe being on this team and i have no problems with his contributions now. we'll need his defense and shot blocking in the post season.

Good point, I think Deke will be valuable to us in playoffs, who else on the roster will be able to control the lane ? We do need a athletic 4, but Thomas shot our load with the marbury trade.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

is'nt that what they said about eisley? soory, i don't buy that. at the begining of the season deke was running up & down, rebounding, blocking shots, & even giving us double dig. scoring sometimes. wuz up?

I already gave my opinion on that:

"he'll be up and down like this until he retires". He's old. He can only play like that in spurts. Lenny just has to use him strategically.

Mutombo would be an even better asset when we get another big man for the low post.

I agree with Hardcore. Dikembe is not quite done, its just that he doesnt fit well against certain teams, and/or certain nights he just doesn't have the lift. He's thrown in superb blocked shot/rebound efforts and in between he's had games where he's had no use. He's an old player with declining athletic ability and bum limbs. Some nights he's gonna feel good and some he's not. And some nights he's gonna face a center slow enough for him to deal with.

I think Isiah Thomas should really try to trade Dikembe Mutombo. I think a contending team like Dallas might be fooled into thinking that he can still defend the elite big's, which he can't. And if Deke can't do what he does best, he's worthless to us. Michael Doleac has defended Yao Ming and Tim Duncan better than Deke this season. Not that Doleac is the answer but he might be a better fit than Deke now that Stephon Marbury is here.
