Hired as president of the Knicks in December of 2003, Thomas said he targeted James as the centerpiece of a future title winner in New York "from the first day he got in the league, as soon as I got the job."

that's funny, i coulda sworn he traded for the contracts of Zach Randolph, Eddy Curry & Jamal Crawford when he took the job... those 3 players alone would have been on the books for about $33M worth of salary in 2010.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

This dude is a complete tool. He is egotistical, pathetic, borderline psychotic snake and dbag. No shame at all in his system.

That entire article was him blaming everyone but himself for his failures in NY.

Larry Brown, Scott Layden, Stephon Marbury, even James Dolan apparently are all more at fault than him.

Then he has the nerve to take credit for Donnie's plan! LMAO...Yeah I'm sure when you were trading for Francis, Randolph, Marbury, Rose, Crawford, Curry and the such that you were thinking about 2010 and LeBron. I'm sure you thought Curry would opt out in 2010 (nice one btw..you pin your hopes on something that was based on circumstance and had little chance of happening).

Then he has the gem that he was fired because of the trial and not because his teams sucked hard.

Asked if he would characterize a return to the Knicks' presidency as a dream, a desire or an expectation, Thomas said, "Desire or dream. I don't expect it. But knowing what I know about the game and the relationships that I have, I'm confident that if no crazy [stuff] happens, I think I can win in New York, and I think I was really close to winning in New York."

What a load of absolute BS! My favourite bit of spin was this:

Curry played at a high level for Thomas for a bit, but soon enough devolved into a symbol of everything that went wrong between Seventh and Eighth avenues.

"There was a method behind the madness," Thomas said. He was confident Curry would opt out in 2010 to clear the necessary space for a fellow client of Leon Rose, name of LeBron James.

"My instincts always told me LeBron would be great in New York," Thomas said. "I remember talking to Jerry West about when he was going after Shaq and how he mortgaged the team and what he went through. I kept saying to Jerry, 'I think if I position this right, I'll have a shot at LeBron.'"

So he gave Curry that contract deliberately leaving out a team option to terminate it in 2010, because he was confident that Curry himself would opt out of all that money in order to allow us to sign Lebron- ha ha! Plus he fails to mention what about the other contracts he had clogging up the cap- Zach, Crawford, Jared Jeffries. What positioning did he do to get Lebron?! Absolute cr*p!

I didn't see the larger article at first. I can't read it, because just scanning bits here and there...well, it's just sad. The man is COMPLETELY deluded. It seems like he is clinically insane. I'll give him David Lee, but everything else he did left no real room for LeBron. And when was anyone saying look out for the Knicks before that CF of a trial came to light? I hope they can shore up his connection to the situation with the workouts with college players and get him banned from the NBA. Even then Stern will need to go further and preven t Dolan from having ANY contact with the man, but it might just be easier to convince Charles Dolan to remove his incompetent son from management of MSG.

with msg and the knicks being about 2% of total charles dolan's total wealth, its not even on his radar. it's like giving your kid a bike.

I just read a couple of more blurbs as posted in Hoopshype. Thomas actually said he was never fired a basketball reason. Bird fired him because he had a better candidate...that's basketball related. If the Knicks were winning under his watch Dolan would not have fired him, so that is therefore a basketball reason. I don't give a poop about his Toronto tenure, because that was so long ago it no longer applies, even given all of their MASSIVE success under his guidance and with the players he drafted.

Wow is this man deluded or what?? Talk about delusions of grandeur.. I want no part of this guy coming back but you do get the feeling that he may have been promised another chance at some point in the future. God forbid he came out and said he did a bad job in this interview..Seems like it was this one's fault, that one's fault, never his..I wonder who the other 5-6 teams are that he's "advising." We've turned the page -- it would be a colossal mistake to bring this guy back.

Chuck Daly begged
me not to take the Knick job.
He said, 'You can't fix it.
You'll probably fix it for somebody else

Sounds like Isiah implying that he fixed the Knicks and Walsh is getting the credit. Why not just say that Daly begged him not to take the job and leave it at that? The man has no shame. If he were made GM again it would be hard for me to keep watching this team and I've been doing it since before their last championship.

Its amazing that he still blames it all on bad luck and other people. He has learned nothing, I hope Dolan has. I'm not holding my breath.

The very definition of "delusional". Isaiah is a sad and pathetic man, and Dolan is a chump for even considering a connection between our beloved Knicks and the insane guy now coaching in Florida.

Exactly. You really have to wonder if it's stupidity, blatant ignorance, or a combination of the two when it comes to his decision-making.
