I know there was plenty of debate last season and the offseason about Monta Ellis. But it was a huge mistake to pass on Ellis. He really would have solved our SG woes and given the team one hell of an inside-out combination

No, no, no, and no.

Monta Ellis is not a good player, no matter how many points he conjures up in Golden State. This guy is the Zach Randolph of guards with Marbury's mentality.

We did the right thing by not getting this guy.

I said before Monta could have been Dwayne Wade-lite in this system. Pair him and Douglas and you get a solid backcourt.

Douglas
Monta
Gallo
Amare
Moz

If he really matured he is top notch.

What do you think it would have taken to obtain him?

Word is he is married and a new more mature Monta.

Also, we'd be capped out for including Melo.

The idea that Monta Ellis was on the table for the Knicks and the Knicks turned down Golden State is pretty hilarious.

GSW traded FOR David Lee. They weren't trying to rebuild - they decided to add another young talented veteran and make a playoffs run.

I heard about this - apparently he married a cop from Memphis? I guess it worked. No more off season moped speeding...

Didnt the Warriors want OJ Mayo for him + others? I dont think we had anything close to what it took to get him. I agree though... he would have been excellent here. He gets tons of assists, shoots a high %, decent rebounder and also gets tons of steals.

I don't think the Knicks would've been capped out for Melo... I think they could've gotten Ellis for Lee. i think Felton is a team option adn if he isn't you just sign someone else for a year of service this season. Probably don't have AR. So that puts the Knicks at about $43 million + draft pick salary next off season, which is about the same as right now.

If we traded for him and never signed Felton we wouldn't be capped out. Same if we trade Felton for him this season.

Curry and Ellis are somewhat similar players. The two of them in the same back court isn't a long term solution. Curry does the same thing but is a better shooter and better distributor and is cheaper. David Lee is also the first All Star the Warriors in a decade+ so, yes, I think it is within the realm of reason they would've traded small for big

I didn't mind Monta. He was an inefficient gunner last season, but before he was asked to be the #1 option, he was a 50% scorer back when Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson were still on the team. DWade-lite was a good comparison.

He has off-the-court issues, and isn't much of a passer, but I agree, he would've been a helluva upgrade to SG. And if we got Carmelo too?

I remember reading a report how when GS inquired about David Lee, they said everyone but Stephen Curry was available.

Donnie wanted AR and the continued cap flexibility over Monta.

here was one rumor (I know it was Berman, but like Dime said, it made some sense). I remember some deadline rumors too

After the dust has settled from the first couple days of free agency, it’s time for the real fireworks to appear. So with Joe Johnson comfy in Atlanta, and Amar’e Stoudemire most likely en route to New York, you knew that the Knicks were going to continue making moves. One such move would be part of a three-way trade involving the Timberwolves and Warriors moving their biggest trade assets.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the deal would have David Lee wind up in Minnesota (a place he visited last week), Monta Ellis in New York and Al Jefferson in The Bay. Considering all three teams are looking to move their contracts, it seems like this trade would make sense.

New York gets a scoring guard that would most likely be an All-Star playing for Mike D’Antoni, while the Warriors get a legit big man that they haven’t really had since Chris Webber in 1993. As for the Timberwolves, they obviously covet Lee, despite re-signing Darko Milicic and inking Nikola Pekovic. And the only way they’re going to get him in a uniform is they can move Jefferson.

Sources Say Warriors May Be Seeking Deal For Knicks Forward David Lee
0Comment July 5 Oakland Tribune
Share Article
"The Warriors have their eyes on one of the big-name free agents out there: New York Knicks all-star power forward David Lee.

Multiple sources confirmed the Warriors are looking into acquiring Lee, who averaged 20.2 points and 11.7 rebounds last season. Getting Lee may require the Warriors to give up guard Monta Ellis.

The Knicks — who reportedly have offered power forward Amare Stoudemire a five-year, $99.7 million deal — are currently focused on LeBron James. But if Stoudemire becomes a Knick, that would effectively end Lee's tenure with the Knicks. If James signs elsewhere, the Knicks will be looking for sidekicks to play with Stoudemire.

That's where the Warriors come in.

But quite a few obstacles stand in the way of the Golden State acquiring Lee. Perhaps the biggest is getting Lee to agree to a contract. Lee is considered one of the best big men available, along with Chris Bosh, Stoudemire and Carlos Boozer. So he'll have options, some — like New Jersey — arguably more desirable than the Warriors.

Since the Warriors don't have any money available under the salary cap, they can acquire Lee only via a trade. Lee, an unrestricted free agent, would have to agree on terms with the Warriors, sign for those terms with New York, then be traded to the Warriors."

I remember the rumors, but don't ever remember anything published that gave the Knicks choice of anyone but Curry. Seems very very suspect. Are we really taking this rumors as anything more than writer speculation because the salary match is easy?

Does Dlee resign in Minny? Rumors and talk don't add up.

I'd rather play in "The City" than in Siberia. Perhaps with enough choice as would Dlee.

Monta goes for 40 then we want him.

You go get him when the blood is still wet on the Moped!

Its ok, we are leaving room and assets to give Kahn for Rubio.

If they don't grab this kid soon he ain't never coming. That rookie scale salary won't cut it compared to what he can get in Europe if he stays.
