Close loss to Veteran Celtic team

Well it was a close loss in Boston tonight, the Knicks didn’t give up. This is why Amare will make us forget David Lee, it’s called leadership. Everyone fought hard right to the last five seconds of the game. You got to love the way Amare is changing the style of Knicks basketball.

Last year I probably would have been screaming at the TV with the Knicks down by 25 points. Thats bad memory for any serious knick fan that has been in pain over the past years. It’s nice to know that those years are over for the moment being.

Amare gave us a superstar performance tonight 27 points (2 for 3 from down town), 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, only 2 turnovers. STATS defense was a little less then ok, he helped out too much on defense leaving his man wide open.

KG was 12 for 17 from the field; most of Garnetts points were easy perimeter jumpers with no blue in sight. You can’t win a game against the Cs if you leave one of the big three open. I should say big four, Rondo has really stepped his game up the past two years. He got the ball to the right person all game long. He reminded me of a young Jason Kidd tonight, kid really knows how to distribute. It’s got to be nice passing the ball to Four future hall of famers all game long.

I’d like to give another big, huge shout out to Landry Fields. My man had a double double in his second start of the season. He almost out played his opponent, if you minus 24 assists (Landry was on Rondo for most of the game) fields shot 50 percent for the second straight game. Landry forced Rondo into some pretty bad shots (4-12) and turnovers (7). I get the feeling fields is going to bust out with some 20 point games soon. This kid Landry has a real motor. Lets see how he does against Roy tomorrow night.

Coming off the bench with firepower for the second game in a row, WILSON CHANDLER. I really like Chandler coming off the bench; he could make a case for 6th man of the year if he keeps this play up. How about his D tonight Wilson had some real nice weak side blocks. Good Defense is part of the new knicks strong points. Minus Amare, every one in the rotation can really lock it down defensively. I think our defense will really improve with time as our team gels.

When we look at this loss one thing that really pops out in the box score. Rebounds! The Knicks had 38 to the Cs 54 we will live or die this year when it comes to rebounding. The Knicks have to work on being more aggressive on the boards. We don’t have to win the rebounding battle to get the win, lets try to make it close. It’s going to have to be a team effort, we need guys like Turif (0 rebounds tonight), and Felton (1 rebound tonight) to come in and crash the boards.

Overall I’m going to go to sleep proud of our Knicks tonight. I can’t wait for the rematch against the Celtics mark it down, December 15th. The Knicks will get some time to gel over the next two months and if everyone is healthy, anything can happen.

Tomorrow’s game is going to be interesting; lets see how the Knicks do on back-to-back games. The big factor for getting the w against Portland will be limiting second chance buckets and rebounding. I think the Knicks match up well against Portland it should be a nice game to watch. The Match up to watch: Fields vs Roy lets see how fields competes.

The messed up thing about not getting the rebound is that our initial defense has been awesome, but then we don't secure the rebound and they get another shot or two at making the basket.

It's weird cuz we have guys around the basket, but they don't pursue the ball like they should. Unless the ball comes right to them, we don't have that guy that reacts to the angle of the ball and goes after it. Our guys are trying to crash the boards, but they aren't really good at it. There's more to it than just jumping when the shot comes off the rim.

I was at the game last night, and cynic that I am, was prepped for a blowout loss. But, man, when STAT hit that three you could feel the air go out of the building. We were a Chandler 3 and a missed free throw or two away from a signature win.

What I noticed:
--Fields isn't flashy; he just makes good things happen.
--Rondo is a half-decent player
--When Amare knocked knees with Shaw I almost threw myself in front of the T.
--Gallo looks like a shell of his former self.
--We are a legit shot-blocking team. Amare's rejection of Rondo late in the game was great.
--Moz can't get rebounds. I like his skillset, but he needs to crash.
--The Celtics fans around me seemed genuinely surprised by the Knicks' tenacity. The guy in back was dumbfounded that the the Celtics had trouble with "a terrible team."

About rebounding:
We have length but not much strength. Our bigs get pushed off of rebounds -especially against guys like Shaq and big baby.
The shot blocking is great but going for the block often cost you the rebound.

The Celtics also get lot of rebounding from Pierce and Rondo. Pierce is surprising strong and works hard on the boards. Rondo is quick and tenacious.

For the Knicks Fields was really working to get rebounds and did a great job. With this team we need everyone to contribute on the boards.
