I didn't see anyone talking about this, but the overall consensus was the Knicks make the playoffs as 7 seed:

ANALYST COMMENT PREDICTIONS

J.A. Adande, ESPN.com | Adande's picks
Troubling NY Post Anthony Randolph-Kenny Walker comparison aside,
Amare Stoudemire, Timofey Mozgov and Raymond Felton will bring
some life back to the Garden. Not sold on shooting and defense,
and those are kinda important in the NBA.

Atlantic: 2

East: 7

Chris Broussard, ESPN Mag | Broussard's picks
Amare loves the attention as the new face of the Knicks, but he
better deliver a playoff spot or that attention will get ugly fast.
Amare and his nice cast of role players should reach the postseason.
Their D will be typically atrocious, and that will be their undoing
if they indeed miss the playoffs.

Atlantic: 2

East: 7

Chad Ford, ESPN.com | Ford's picks
Amare Stoudemire, Raymond Felton and Anthony Randolph aren't exactly
LeBron and Bosh, but they'll be enough to help Mike D'Antoni finally
field a proper playoff team. But Donnie Walsh will have to find a way
to get a player like Carmelo Anthony to get the team back into the elite.

Atlantic: 2

East: 7

Zach Harper, Daily Dime Live | Harper's picks
The Knicks' consolation prize from free agency is far from a worst-case
scenario. Amare Stoudemire might not be what New York was hoping for, but
he'll give it a much-needed go-to scorer. Add Raymond Felton's ability to
run the pick-and-roll, and this team can back into the playoffs.

Atlantic: 2

East: 7

John Hollinger, ESPN.com | Hollinger's picks
After two years of waiting for 2010 ... it's 2010! Party on Knicks fans,
your team actually has a chance this season. The folks in MSG will be elated
enough to forget that James Dolan a) still owns the team and b) tried to
re-hire Isiah Thomas this summer.

Atlantic: 3

East: 8

Tim Legler, ESPN | Legler's picks
Obviously it was a letdown not getting LeBron, but they still got Amare,
who is comfortable with the Mike D'Antoni system. They are going to play
an uptempo style and he is going to put up huge numbers. Anthony Randolph
is a guy I love. Raymond Felton could have a breakout year.

Atlantic: 3

East: 9

Chris Sheridan, ESPN.com | Sheridan's picks
They have set making the playoffs as their goal, which means basically posting
a .500 record while hoping Melo plays out his contract and becomes an unrestricted
free agent. Bench scoring is going to be an issue. Defense should be stronger, but
can't say the same about rebounding.

Atlantic: 2

East: 6

Marc Stein, ESPN.com | Stein's picks
Put me in the camp that dares to believe that the Knicks, with Amare Stoudemire,
can sneak into the playoffs. I've said from the beginning that Stoudemire has the
requisite bravado to stand up to the unique pressures of Gotham. And there's
(probably) enough around him to snag one of the last two playoff slots.

Atlantic: 2

East: 7

Michael Wallace, ESPN.com | Wallace's picks
They went hard after LeBron, but ended up with Amare. At least the Knicks didn't
go empty-handed like the Nets in the peak of free agency. But Madison Square Garden
will be filled with mediocrity again -- unless a midseason deal can be swung to acquire
Carmelo Anthony.

Atlantic: 3

East: 9

Brian Windhorst, ESPN.com | Windhorst's picks
That Jared Jeffries trade may haunt them all season as Donnie Walsh struggles to turn
the Eddy Curry trade chip into something. But at least now they are actually looking at
trades to get better. If nothing else, former Suns big man Amare Stoudemire makes them
a playoff contender.

thanks for posting that nix, the problem i have is that i don't think theres one guy on espn who knows what he's talking about when it comes to the nba. the only guy that comes close is legler and even he is pretty questionable. that is a horrible group of "experts"

i am also not sold on the team's shooting, as adande write. i have written about this elsewhere, and is a bigger concern to me than perhaps our biggest weakness, rebounding...primarily because despite claims that the team is geared for seven seconds or less, i don't see us having the tools to run it efficiently, unless azubike can come back and be what we hope he can. but that's probably not until december, and still is a pretty big question mark.

the fact that we are suddenly relying on 2 practically undrafted rookies, fields and mozgov, who have been very pleasant surprises in the pre-season, says something about some problems our team faces.

as for defense, i am actually higher than some appear to be based on what we saw in pre-season.

no more easy baskets, although getting the rebound after contesting shots could be an issue.

we certainly will have better on the ball defense with felton logging heavy minutes and td, especially when the two of them are on the floor together.

amar'e may not be a champion defender, but you can already see he's better than lee, not that this is saying much.

but seriously, who's the weak defender out there?

one problem we did see was rotation on three point shooting defense, which seems to be the neverending problem for this team the past decade.

however, if we improve defensively somewhat significantly, which i think could be the case, like say to 15th, it could help with other deficiencies.

Thanks Knixkik, very thorough. Just ordered the league pass, looking forward to opening night. I haven't seen any preseason games so I can't comment on specifics. The early reviews of AR by some of the regs here sound discouraging. I also read here that they aren't pushing the ball that much. Hope its just a matter of them getting used to playing together. 20 seconds or less is not what I was hoping for going into this season.

Really can't complain about the predictions. I think they show a reasonable take on the team. We usually get dissed so hard and it's a testament to the new respect that there is for the team. Saying you think this team should be a 7 seed is showing a lot of respect given what we've been for years.
