According to Hoopshype twitter:

Free agent center Earl Barron is no longer represented by Mark Termini.

http://twitter.com/hoopshype

And rightly so- how his manager failed to get him ANY contract, when he's 7ft and got pretty good numbers at the end of last year with us, is quite an impressive failure- guess he really overplayed his hand.

Anyway if his new manager is more agreeable, would it be worth us signing him in the hope he can provide some much needed rebounding? Was his rebounding last year a fluke? It would mean cutting PE Jr, who we don't need but I get the sentimental reason for keeping him. It would feel a bit cruel cutting PE Jr again and at this late stage, but we really need some rebounding.

i agree that signing barron would be a good move at this point.

can't we just release Rautins?

I'd rather keep Rautins and release PE Jr - he'll get absolutely no burn this year. Rautins at least has some potential upside.
The new new core: Randle, RJ, IQ. Maybe Mitch. Future pick. Future trade. Future FA.

We really do need another rebounder.

Dwayne Jones was just released by PHX--I'd scoop him up right now and give him a look. Dude was a DOMINANT rebounder last year in the NBDL..Jeff Pendergraph might be released by the Blazers soon according to hoopshype. We should be monitoring that situation...Earl Barron, Erick Dampier and Josh Boone are all FAs we could go out and get right this second.. Call up Orlando and see if Ryan Anderson could be had (love this guy for this system--great shooter with some post moves, also a quality rebounder). Daniel Orton too -- what do the Magic have planned for him? Call the Clippers about Craig Smith or DeAndre Jordan, call Toronto about Joey Dorsey, call Cleveland about Leon Powe and JJ Hickson. Powe looks like he's healthy now...'Landlord' Shelden Williams is actually playing very well for Denver at the moment. Too bad K-Mart & the Birdman are both hurt, that's why he's getting time out there right now... Call Dallas and ask about Ian Mahinmi...Call the Pistons and ask about Jerebko--I know they like him but they also have other forwards like Monroe, Daye & Summers they want to intergrate into the mix--can't hurt to ask...What's the deal with Golden State and Jeff Adrien? Are they gonna sign him? Adrien's put up almost 5 rpg in less that 10 mins per this preseason for the Warriors..Where's Alexander Johnson? Last I heard he was with Houston with a chance to make that team--not sure if that's still the case.. Call Indiana about Tyler Hansbrough, Josh McRoberts and maybe even Solomon Jones... I know the Lakers like Derrick Character a lot but call and inquire. Memphis has DeMarre Carroll & Darrell Arthur under contract -- both are affordable. Call Minny about Kosta Koufos. Call Ok. City about one of their backup bigmen -- Ibaka, Mullens -- now that they got Aldrich in place behind Krstic. Would PHX be interested in trading Gani Lawal? Heck, too bad Sean May hurt himself again (Jersey just released him early this month). If he didn't fracture his foot, I would've taken a chance on him with this team, weight problem and all. Maybe reuniting with Felton could've brought back some of the old UNC magic.

There are other guys that address the rebounding issue but just looking around the league, these seem to be the most affordable PF/C types we could add that would have negligible cap impact. I much rather carry an extra big and/or a rebounding specialist as our 15th guy over PEJ or S Williams. Makes much more sense towards addressing a major need. Some of these guys may come easier than others. Donnie's not gonna know until he picks up the phone.

90% of the guys you listed have done little to nothing in the NBA. How are they going to be depended on and how are they even better than Ronny Turiaf?

The point is you don't wanna do anything to screw with the cap but at the same time, you wanna at least attempt to address this need. That's why I'm not interested in adding a veteran rebounder at this point. I'm not interested in adding any kind of a bloated contract -- not until we clearly define exactly where the bulk of our remaining cap room is going (right now it looks like it's set aside for Melo Anthony)..In the meantime, I'd try one of these guys first. A lot of these guys have never really been given a shot in the NBA...Look at Shelden Williams with Denver -- the Nuggets are down bigs all over the place, Williams is finally getting a chance and he's really running with it..Good signing right there...Low risk gambles that very well may never pan out but it wouldn't stop me from trying..They're all better roster additions over PEJ or Shawne Williams because they address a need.

I think the best bet is to go after the free agents that you mentioned, Boone, Barron, or Dampier. All three are very solid role players and I think would do well in NY. I love Anderson also but I don't think Orlando trades him for anything the Knicks are willing to give up.

I noticed Williams playing very well--you never know when a player will get it. He looked like a stupid slow player with a great body. Now he looks like a guy who can give 12-8 with good D for 1mm this year. I wouldnt mind if Oklahoma would give up Mullens--but I doubt it.

Let me ask you this about Anderson -- if it took Gallinari to get him would you do it? I really think I might. I'd have to wait and see how this Carmelo Anthony thing goes first (I'd easily give up Gallinari in a sensible package to get Melo) but if Melo either stays in DEN or goes to the Nets and I had a chance to get Ryan Anderson & Daniel Orton and a future 1 or Anderson and 2 1st round picks, I might make that move. What do you think about that? I still need to see a little more but I honestly believe with what I've seen up to this point that Ryan Anderson is a superior NBA player over Danilo Gallinari. He's just as young, just as big and just as good of an outside shooter (maybe better)..Only difference is Anderson can rebound the ball, post up inside and is generally more of a physical player all around.

Hey you might be right Crush (which is why I did include either Orton and a pick or multiple picks coming along with Anderson in that hypothetical)..I just don't think of Gallinari as a big-time complimentary player to Amar'e at all right now and I really gotta question whether he ever will be. I say the same thing all the time -- I'll continue to root my tail off for this guy to make that jump to the next level but as of right now (after all I heard about the work he did in the offseason working on explosiveness and his post-up game mind you) all I continue to see is a guy with an above average perimeter stroke and that's about it and a guy that relies way too heavily on that perimeter offense. I'll be glad to someday change my opinion on him, tickled pink in fact, but he's gonna have to show me much more. Now is he capable of showing much more? That's the thing. Hopefully he is. but as of right now, he's not showing me nearly enough. I really hope he starts playing better --- either I wanna keep this guy or I wanna include him in a trade to get a stud like Melo. The last thing in the world I would ever want to see is Gallo leveling off to the point where we're looking at exactly what he is right now which boils down to nothing more than an incomplete player/a guy that could've been but never was. If that's ever the case, forget including him in any trade for Carmelo Anthony, we might not even be able to get a guy like Ryan Anderson for him straight up. The dude really is a complete enigma right now. Just start showing me some signs and I'll be happy ---- hit the glass HARD, take the ball to the goal A LOT MORE, post up your opponent at 6'10".. See next game, we won't see much of that at all, but we'll see him take 10+ 3s...We already know he can do that. I want him to show us more. The team needs him to do more than that. Can he do it?

I think the best bet is to go after the free agents that you mentioned, Boone, Barron, or Dampier. All three are very solid role players and I think would do well in NY. I love Anderson also but I don't think Orlando trades him for anything the Knicks are willing to give up.

I like Anderson a lot and I thought when the Nets drafted Lopez, Anderson and CDR that all three players might turn out to be better than Gallo. I don't think that is the case anymore but I still like Anderson a lot. I think he has had a really good preseason. However, I don't think I would trade Gallo for Anderson.

I also would like to see Gallo do more. I know he can as he brought the ball up when playing in Italy. However, I think this situation falls more on the coach. Gallo's role seems to be to station himself in the corner, spread the defense, and wait for a pass to take the open shot. Wasted use of a talented 6'10" young player.

I think turning down an offer from the team that gave you a shot and nba minutes when you hadn't proved anything yet,is frowned upon in the nba. He has worked hard to become an nba player and then big timed it. GMs are always worried about guys like that
I just hope that people will like me

I would prefer to just trade one of our players for a rebouder
