Does it make sense to extend Chandler right now?

If he's not perceived to be worth his contract value OR his contract extends beyond this season, doesn't his trade value go down. I like Wilson and I think he's the perfect sixth man for the Knicks (and as such the starter when either a SG, SF, or PF are out for whatever reason), but it seems he's fadder for a trade at this point. As such his value to a team amy be his skills combined with now commitment beyond this season (although I think most teams would re-up after seeing what he can bring to table after a season).

It seems we're being fed that the Knicks are doing what they can to get Melo, but they are also undermining those efforts with public critique of the players, extension talks, and the like.

I think we learned (and hopefully Walsh learned) that you can trade players in June and July if you need to in order to get under the cap. Chandler is a baller. If we can extend him to a reasonable contract, we should be able to trade him if we need to later on. In fact, signing him to an extension improves his trade value IMO, because it means the other team no longer has to worry about whether they can resign him. If we can resign Chandler to something in the $5.5-$6.5 million a year range for 3-4 years, I would do it.

Since the league is looking to slash salary I can see why Chandler is looking to re-up his contract. Another reason they might be doing this is salary match for Melo which I'm hoping for.

If we plan on trading for Carmelo during the season than resigning would be ideal. Chandler is an NBA starter for sure.
