Athletic Propulsion LabsNBA players were prohibited from wearing Athletic Propulsion Labs' $300 Concept 1 shoe, which is designed to increase lift.

NEW YORK -- The NBA is prohibiting its players from wearing a new line of sneakers that claims to increase vertical leap.

"Under league rules, players may not wear any shoe during a game that creates an undue competitive advantage," the NBA said in a statement Tuesday.

Athletic Propulsion Labs' $300 Concept 1 shoe employs a spring-based system designed to increase lift.

The Los Angeles-based company was founded by twins Adam and Ryan Goldston, both former USC basketball walk-ons whose father worked in the shoe industry.

The brothers said Tuesday that many NBA players, including about 30 percent of the rookie class, expressed interest in the shoes but they wouldn't reveal names because the players had signed with other companies.

If they show up wearing these you want them on your side

You know I don't get it. In baseball they made better gloves so you can catch the ball at ease. They even have stuff you can put on your hands so you can grip the bat better. To me all they are trying to ko is box the NBA players in a corner. Now they can't even complain or question a call. It's not good for a player to hold all that stuff inside him because one day he just might go off. Get rid of that rule and if the sneakers have more spring in them it's ok. Guys wear mouth peices for their teeth. They wear knee pads. Whats next no tatoos?

Word. I'll wait for the price to drop to $200 and then grab me a pair (or maybe two). With a few more inches of vertical, I'd be able to sloppy dunk on occasion (not that I play hoops anymore, but it would be fun to show off to my kids).
