A Knicks draft selection that left fans scratching their heads with a collective, "who's he?" - check

Versatility - Lee went from lanky HS forward to college center out of need. Fields played three positions for Stanford – shooting guard, small forward and power forward – and played all three well. He can shoot, he can rebound, he can create his own shot. He can play on the perimeter facing he basket, and he has an uncanny ability to get off good shots with his back to the basket in the post.

Played for former NBA baller in college - Billy Donovan meet Johnny Dawkins, check

Adaptability - Lee was forced to play center in New York and responded to the tough assignment with hard work. Fields knows how to play the game, which not all draftable players do, and he’s a smart player. He can fit into nearly any style of play.

Like Lee, one would not consider Fields an outstanding athlete but he has a 39 inch vertical. Fields is able to go from the foul line to the basket in one step.

Fields brings the same repertoire of half hooks and turnaround jumpers into the paint, but has better range than Lee. LF shot 34% from three point line in college.

Rate of improvement - Lee worked to make himself a better outside shooter. Fields’ improvement from his junior year to his senior season was nothing short of remarkable, which suggests he could take another significant step up in the next few years. Stay tuned.

Tina Cervasio will love him - (degree in Communications) check

Landry Fields has it

that mojo

that thing that wins games in the clutch

the ability to make a quick, intuitive pass

the snap pass to a cutting Mozgov off the dribble was a thing of beauty

next time it is a layup

IN

PG Felton
SG Fields, he simply knows how to play the game
SF Chandler, smooth and effective on defense
PF Stoudemire
C Mozgov, growing with every game

Minute Men

G DWTDD, may play his way into starting lineup with Felton
G Mason, get well soon Bill Walker
F Gallo, what JohnWallace44 said - not so versatile or intelligent as as The Mayor
F Gazelle, Randolph will settle into a rhythm by November
C Turiaf, for the emotion and the passion

I love that pick. I have no idea how good he'll be, but I'm sure that if he stays healthy, he'll have a long nba career. The kid works hard and plays smart.

This is the worst thread title ever.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Worst Ever

kam77 - Nor will your vapid post make a Hall of Fame anytime soon.

Comparing Landry Fields to David Lee in work ethic and making other players better does force you to think, doesn't it?

It is too long. Titles spanning two lines bothers me.
It has a lot of numbers in it, which32 is10 not16 good3.4 for readability72.
And it makes no sense as a software metaphor. Landry Fields is a 1.0 not a 2.5.
He isn't an update over DLee either.
There is no connection between him and Lee other than they seem like hard workers.

Funny, the title only spans one line on my 17" Mac Book Pro. Have you seen the new Mac Book Air released yesterday. Kinda spiffy.

Numbers Are Fun. My JHS 67 Math teacher Claudia Zaslafsky was an expert in African numerology. Who knew?

A software update is a perfect analogy for the step from Lee to Fields. Hence 2.0 to 2.5. C'mon, get with the program. Living in the past is for chumps.

Note that the term "update" was used and not "upgrade". An update implies that Fields is less apt to cause a software conflict with his new team mates than Lee, who was redundant, get it?

The connection is in the growth curve. Lee was met with firm resistance on his draft night. So was Fields. My how things change.

Besides, Landry Fields "up and under" was Number 2 on ESPN Top Plays.

Whatever the extra gear is that separates elite ballplayers from the mediocre, Landry Fields has it

The Knicks are simply more cohesive when he is on the floor.

He makes quick decisions and does not turn the ball over. He has a way of being in the right place at the right time and can finish with a flourish.

Once he gains confidence in creating his shot, he will be a load to handle.

I don't think creating his shot is an issue for him at this point- he just needs to work on his jumper and foul shooting. He need more of an arch on his shot, IMO.

The guy is just a savvy player with underrated athletic ability.

From a May 2010 DraftExpress blog- rather long, but he describes the kind of training he went through to prepare himself for pre-draft workouts.
http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Landry-Fields-Just-Another-Day-at-the-Office-3460/

The guy is a hard worker, who I think will be a David Lee type player in terms of improving his performance skills each year.

His Stanford smarts also come out in his writing, and he indicated that the extra work he did by going to summer school each year allowed him to have an easy final semester.

That’s what three years of summer school will get you, the ability to get ahead in school and have a light load your last quarter of college.
As a teacher, this impressed me big time, since most of the kids in my HS have to go to summer school because they screwed up during the regular year. At a time when guys are trying to get out of school as soon as they can to play in the pros, Fields was going to extra classes so he could have a leisurely final quarter at school, and still pick up his degree. Got to luv this guy- he will be a good role model for kids someday in the future.
