We have thought that we were going to keep Amare at his natural position and start a tradition center, but obviously starting Amare at center allows for a more D'Antoni style of play. We just so happen to have the perfect forwards for this line-up in Gallo and Chandler. We may struggle to rebound, but as long as we can move Amare to PF for much of the game with Mozgov or Turiaf in there it should be fine. I know one of the major issues is how playing center would wear out Amare defensively, but does it really? There are many good PFs in the league but not very many good centers, so you would think defensive assignments would be easier. I am on the fence about this so i need to know other's opinions.

I think this was bound to happen. The rotation and the line up is getting smaller.

It's also a matter of Amare's health. We have a lot of money tied up in him. We want to keep our investment on the court.

I am totally against the idea of putting him there. It's like taking a hammer to Michelangelo's David.
The most expensive piece you have should not be the one that gets the most punishment. Not that he is fragile
just would you set a Ming vase on a window ledge and wait for the pigeons to turn it over?

Some days this would be fine...but do you really want him banging every play against Howard, Bynum, Shaq and company? Not me.

I'm against putting him there, but I'd rather have Amare at C and try Randolph at PF eventually (for extra rebounding and shot blocking) than either Turiaf or Mosgov. Neither Turiaf or Mosgov give you much rebounding, Turiaf is limited offensively, and Mosgov will be in foul trouble non stop.

Because outside shooting is more important than rebounding or blocked shots

This irritates me. We finally have a true Center in Timofey Mozgov and a servicable backup in Ronny Turiaf and yet Mike D'Antoni wants to go with this small ball garbage. How are we supposed to rebound with Amar'e Stoudemire and Wilson Chandler in the frontcourt? It's like D'Antoni has never watched basketball. You win with defense and rebounding first and second. Offense is a distant third. I feel like Don Nelson is coaching this team.

Has D'Antoni actually said he's going to set the SL and rotation? LEt's not bash him for something he hasn't even done yet. It's still the PRE SEASON!!!

2nd if Mike feels that his best chance to WIN GAMES, is to go small then we have to allow him to do what he thinks is best, but he seems to be making every effort to find a lineup that works and that has size and guys playing as close to their natural positions as he can. This is still a flawed team. It's not perfect. So he's got a tough job to try and put together a rotation that will LEAD TO WINS! In the end that's what Mike is always trying to do.

You can hate his small ball all you want, but he's won a ton of games playing that way and so how much of a negative can it be when you get all the way to the WCF's and it took some dirty goon tactics to knock you out?

The problem with this thinking is that D'Antoni's preference is to play small and he has said that he believes big men slow down his offense. Every day it seems that he takes another step back to what he is comfortable with and while he is talking about changing he is now also talking about Amare at center and going with an 8 man rotation. I am worried about Mason starting tonight as well. Mason fits the vet that doesn't need coaching role but there is a lot of young talent on the team.

+ 1... i think it's a bad idea... we need someone to do the dirty work in the middle & i don't wanna see Amare getting banged up trying to defend the lane against bigger guys... let guys like Turiaf & Moz play the garbage man role & let Amare focus on doing his thing.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
