I beleive that the Knicks should be playing more games in preseason. That trip over seas my not have been a good idea. They need more pre-season games under their belt.

No it's not the games that will make the difference for this team. They need to learn EACH OTHER and MIKE'S SYSTEM! Now he can really get them prepared mentally to play this style. This is a system that requires you to make quick decisions and play at speed. You have to adjust to it and that takes LOTS of practice. We need practice more than anything. Felton/Amar'e in particular. They haven't played at full speed yet, cuz they can't. It is something new for most of the players on this team.
However, once they've been in this system for a while it will show in how they play in the next few games.

Remember this is a system coach and it doesn't really matter what the other team wants to do. In every game we want to impose our will on the other team. That's why he want's to apply some 3/4 court pressure and force the pace. Don't judge the team on what you've seen this early, cuz that's not what you're gonna see later on.

You realize the Knicks are playing the most games in the preseason, right? Like more than anyone else...

i think the extra practice time and the road trip will help them. fewer games up front might be better in this case.

we've already seen the media overreact to ONE LOSS in the pre-season.

For this style practice is needed to get these players to react instinctively rather than thinking too much. Playing fast requires quicker decisions. DO I shoot or Pass? It sounds simple, but to perfect this thing you have to drill it over and over until you can see the advantages and the openings the defense gives you and quickly exploit them.

NixLuva, I agree with you. More practice is needed. When teams play an isolate, one-on-one offense, not as much team practice is needed. That is not our game. Our's is a team effort.

The trip was good for team morale and off the court chemistry, but we need more time in the gym working on the mental part of the game. This style is often confused with run and gun styles we've seen in the past, but it's really not. It's a controlled mayhem. When this is run right it's a highly efficient style of ball. The assumption is that it's all about a PG like Nash, but this is about ALL the players understanding how to swing the ball and not hold onto it too long. All the motion and passing is with a purpose and should always end up with a quick easy score. Since very few of these guys have actually played this specific version of uptempo offense, it will take time to develop the tempo and rhythm that makes this all work.

We have the right kind of players, we just need to allow them time to get it right.

I agree. I think, by game 77 or so, they should just about be hitting their stride.
