Nalod, this terminology Starphuchers is getting out dated. It represents a bad time in all NYK fans life. It represents, Dice and Marbury, Curry technically he never was considered a star to being with. Why wasn't this terminology used when the Knicks got Spree, H20, Larry Johnson. If Amare falls flat on his face as a Knicks than would that constitute starphuching?
Starphuching is the belief a Savior would cure all. Not just a knick thing. There is lots of suffering in other teams.
Larry was traded for Mase. We took Larrys crazy contract and bad back. Larry was never the centerpiece.
H20 was never seen as a savior. His potential at the age we got him was attractive. He never made it to the next level. His contract made it difficult.
The real starphuch of that era was resigning Ewing to a max deal at the end of 1996 thinking he still was our savior instead of going into breakdown mode for the next 2 years. He should have been moved PRIOR to Nellie being named coach. Nellie was good back then.
Spree was not a savior, but the devil himself. We took him warts and all. We gave up little for him.
Dice was not a starphuch at the time. Camby was not who he became in denver and Nene if he stayed our pick would have had a similar unremarkable career. Dice was playing in preseason like a monster and he hurt his other knee, not the one he was coming off injury.
To replace the "DRY LIKE TOAST" Layden we did the improbable Starphuch. HIred Isiah. I have heard of Starphuch coaches but starphuch GM's was still rare. Jordan comes to mind. Starphuch GM's don't come as trades. Larry was a Starphuch coach for the team given its roster. Larry on the Bobcats is just plain smart.
Marbury Trade for Dice, and 2 no. 1 picks thinking his glorious return back home would be the beginning of a new golden era of Isiah Starphuch.
Amare came as a free agent. He is in his prime and played under the MDA system.
What are the expectations with him? NObody is talking contending with him. NObody asking him to avg 28pts a game. Hope is .500 and 8th seed. We over paid for his salary but that is what it took to get him. Amare is no starphuch because he is not seen as a savior.
Melo by some is being treated as the "FINAL PIECE". If traded then we deplete our asset base. If he is gotten by free agency then we have assets to go around him and Amare and also to make trades with.
Melo by Free Agency is smart.
Melo by over paying is a Starphuch.
Boston Celtics whole team is a Starphuch. Somtimes it works. Ray Allen and KG are true professionals. Pierce was untradable at that time.
Oscar Robertson to Bucks to play with Alcinder was successful starphuch.
Wilt to the Lakers yielded just one championship. Not sure about that one.
Most Starphuchers like to throw around no. 1 picks as sweetners. Celts by not trading mid no. 1 pick Rondo was the most important member to keep the team going the last 2 years after they won. Boston made a nice run this yeare because of the supporting cast. If starphucher fans were in charge, rondo would have been gone.
The king lord god of Starphuchs is Wade-James-Bosh. The talk of 72plus wins is starphuch evidence. They don't win 65 games or more and an championship they are object failures.
Pandering to keep your stars happy is starphucking. Knicks did it for years with Doc Rivers trade, Vandeweigh, Blackman, Harper, etc. Give up youth for instant gradification. Cavs did it with Jamison to make Lebron happy.
Definitions as written in "The Starphuching guide to the universe" is varied. But make no bones about it, Starphuching is not without some merit and while rare, it does work. It can win championships as eveident by boston but also undo a championship run when the lakers Added Malone and Payton. Cost them nothing but Malone breaking down undid them.
Strphuching does boost ticket sales. Owners love quickie starphuch. Boots TV revenue too!
MSG profits huge from starphuchs. Fear not Starphuchers, with dolan in charge you might just get your way.
Its melo that controls this one.
Hard to starphuch yourself if you make 20 mil a year from it.
Good question Vmart, thought it deserved its own thread.
