By TIM REYNOLDS, AP Sports Writer

MIAMI – Dwyane Wade's preseason debut ended quickly with an injured right hamstring, and it could be a couple weeks before he's back running with the Miami Heat.

Wade left Miami's exhibition opener against the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night just 3 minutes, 17 seconds into the contest, headed to the locker room and did not return. He watched the game while getting treatment, as new teammates LeBron James and Chris Bosh carried the Heat to a 105-89 victory.

"I just felt it pull," Wade said. "I knew automatically it was a pulled hamstring. It was a little sore coming into the game the last couple days of practice and stuff, so I tried to do everything to make it go away. But it happens."
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Wade would be re-evaluated in about a week. Wade suggested it might take as many as two weeks to get completely over the problem.

Either way, there's time: Miami doesn't play a game that counts until visiting Boston on Oct. 26.
"As a team, everyone has to pick it up," James said.

Wade's injury was the darkest spot of the night for the Heat, who had a sellout crowd of 19,600 pack into the arena to see the long-awaited debut of the star trio of Wade, James and Bosh, Olympic teammates who won a gold medal, now Heat teammates looking to hoist the gold NBA championship trophy.

Wade was introduced last, the crowd roared, and did so again when he hit a jumper for his first — and only — shot of the night. Wade felt a twinge while guarding Richard Hamilton, and knew immediately the pain wasn't going away quickly.
"It was a preseason game, but the atmosphere was great," Wade said. "There was a lot of excitement about the opportunity to see this team play together, and they only saw me play for three minutes. It's fine. I think Miami's seen me play for a long time and they'll get a lot of time to see the 'Big 3,' as they say, our team play together."

James said he told Wade that if the Heat were going to have an injury, he'd prefer to have it now than later — and Wade obviously agreed.

Bosh has dealt with hamstring issues before and offered Wade advice.

"You just have to treat it delicately," Bosh said, "and make sure you respect it."

Wade quipped at times in the last couple days that fans should "get there early" for the preseason debut, a suggestion that he didn't plan to play that many minutes.

In no way, Wade insisted, was that said to indicate he anticipated the hamstring to be a serious concern.

"I didn't think they'd really have to get there early to see me play three minutes," Wade said, laughing. "So watch what you say."

The last time someone was gloating over another Marcus Camby injury in Denver, Antonio McDyess was landing awkwardly on his leg in The Garden.

Last year, Wade made a $25,000 contribution to the cash-strapped Robbins Public Library, which was on the brink of closing.

"[I wanted them] to continue to be there for the kids and make sure the doors are open for the kids to further their education as much as possible," Wade said. "I know how important education is and we don't want it to close down. "I was happy the community was happy that the library was saved," Wade said. "That meant a lot to me to know the importance of it to the community."

Wade's World gave away $10,000 to 3 Dade County After School Programs and another $10,000 to "3 Under the Tree" $10,000 Grant Winners for Christmas, not including his contributions to The Boys and Girls Club of America.

Bad karma?

I don't think so.

Never like to see guys hurt. This injury isnt that big of a deal though because Miami still has Bosh and Lebron.

Wade has always been injury prone. I wouldn't be surprised if he was in and out of the lineup all season. He's no spring chicken anymore.

That said, I don't like to see guys get injured, either.

What injury could Eddy Curry possibly get this season? Pulled stomach muscle?

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

All of these guys personally are good guys. I just think you're messing with the basketball gods when you try to put together an unholy alliance like this.

from RealGM:
The Heat went out of their way to showcase Dwyane Wade as the alpha dog prior to their preseason opener on Tuesday night, but LeBron James isn't ready to defer to his new teammate.

Wade went last in pregame introductions and when the Big Three posed for pictures James and Chris Bosh were on opposite sides of the long-time Heat superstar.

Regardless, LeBron admitted that he can't be a follower.

"I can't defer," James said. "I'm never in defer mentality."

The cracks in the foundation have already started to spread. How long will it take for this team to implode and the egos to come unhinged and the chaos to reign?

Someone needs to sit Lebron down and tell him: "It's Wade's team, biiiiaaaaatch. Play the game and STFU. You could have had your own team but instead opted to take your vagina to South Beach."

"What happened in the playoffs vs the Celtics?" would have been a nice follow up question.

The three amigos will be very tight and if anything will be too generous with their ego.

You got two alphadogs on that team. Problem is you need one to lead and one to follow.

I hope the lose to the knicks in the Conf finals!!!!!

Make no mistake, I wish they were knicks.

I suggest you watch the video I posted of everything Lebron said. No cracks in the foundation. Wade and Bosh will get plenty of shots and Lebron will get plenty of assists.

Bosh seemed happy to be able to get open looks.

Just wishful thinking on my part, I suppose, but it's still early yet. Plenty of time for Lebron to get his panties all in a wad.

thanks for the video - it's important to listen to the context of how one answers a question, than just to post on it and take it to mean something that it doesnt. thats what the moron who posted it on real gm did, and what the beat writers do on a daily basis. we, as posters on this forum, shouldnt stoop to that level as well.

James leaves Heat game, walks to locker room

Posted Oct 12 2010 11:21PM

MIAMI (AP) -- LeBron James left the Miami Heat exhibition game against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday after grabbing at his right hamstring in obvious discomfort.

The Heat said James was cramping, and his return to the game was uncertain. James came back to the Heat bench - without a limp - about 2 1/2 minutes into the fourth quarter.

James reached for his right hamstring with 3:51 left in the third quarter, walking with a bit of a limp off the floor and then quickly through the tunnel toward the Miami locker room. He was followed moments later by Dwyane Wade, who is sidelined with a right hamstring strain.

Wade emerged after a few minutes, smiling when he took his seat on the Heat bench.

James had played 26 minutes in the exhibition against the Euroleague club, scoring 22 points with seven assists and four rebounds. He was replaced by Patrick Beverley.

They scared now!!!

I thought that way at first, mainly cause I was disgusted at The Decision and LBJ's handling of the situation. Now that we're here, though, I'm thinking this is the best thing that's happened to the NBA in a long time. First off, love 'em or hate 'em, everyone wants to see the Heat play. From a marketing standpoint, the NBA has been on a lot of people's minds for months. That's huge. Second, the forming of a superteam specifically designed to dethrone the reigning champions has a built-in, epic drama that few seasons in any sport can match (except maybe the WWF).

Will it work? Chamberlain, West & Baylor couldn't beat Russell's Celtics. Barkley, Pippen, & Olajuwon busted in Houston. Malone & Payton couldn't get Kobe & Shaq another title. Garnett, Pierce, & Allen won the title - I didn't hear too many people crying about what an unholy alliance that was. If LBJ, Wade & Bosh want to play together, that's their biz. I'd rather see players colluding than GMs - the way Memphis gave Pau Gasol to L.A. was no more honorable than what happened in Miami.

Can't wait for the season to begin and I want everyone healthy - no excuses. There's no karma in watching Heat players get hurt - it would just be a bad break for the fans.
