I wonder if this will cause a Bulls knee jerk reaction in the form of an overpaying Melo trade.

DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Chicago Bulls forward Carlos Boozer has a broken right hand that will require surgery, and he is expected to be out eight weeks, the team announced Sunday afternoon.

Boozer suffered the injury on Saturday during the Bulls' day off. According to team sources, Boozer tripped over a bag in his house and fell.

The team says Boozer broke the fifth metacarpal bone in his hand. He was evaluated by team physician Dr. Brian Cole and hand specialist Dr. Marc Cohen of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush.

The Bulls acquired the veteran forward this summer after missing out on LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

In eight professional seasons, Boozer has missed 145 games.

Boozer spent the previous six years with Utah and averaged 19.5 points and 11.2 rebounds last season before joining the Bulls in a sign-and-trade deal with the Jazz.

Teammates continually praised him throughout the first week of training camp as a player who can score 20 points and average 10 rebounds a game.

Bulls forward Joakim Noah will be expected to pick up the slack during Boozer's absence, and second-year forward Taj Gibson is the most likely candidate to replace Boozer in the starting lineup.

Gibson started 70 games last season, averaging nine points and 7.5 rebounds a game.

On your day off, what luck..Im glad donnie didn't really give him the time a day, guy is always hurt

It will probably have the opposite effect. Most of the payers they were talking about trading were interiors players. I think their lack of depth right now will keep them from going after Melo. I could see them going after another back up center/power forward tho.

Surprising. NOT! This guy stays injured. This is why I said Chicago isnt a lock to do a dam thing in the central division.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

hey, we better knock on wood and keep our mouth shut. this eerily reminds me of the year we traded camby for mcdyess and camby got hurt. we all ran our mouth saying camby is injury prone and mcdyess is healthy and low and behold mcdyess gets hurt and out for a year and a half.

I don't like Boozer but I do have him on my fantasy nba team unfortunately, bit of a setback this.
