According to everyones favourite 'journalist':

MILAN - Donnie Walsh confirmed today that Chris Mullin is his choice to become Knicks general manager and possibly his successor.

"If I could hire anybody Chris would be the guy," Walsh told The News. "That's who I want."

There are no immediate plans for the club to add to their front office. In the past, Garden Chairman James Dolan has been reluctant to sign off on Walsh hiring Mullin. One theory is that Dolan's next executive hire will be naming Isiah Thomas as consultant, a position Thomas held for one week in last August.

The other theory is that Dolan doesn't feel the need to add another executive with Glen Grunwald and John Gabriel already on the staff. Mullin is in Milan as a guest of the NBA and is running clinics in the city for NBA Cares.

Jesus- it looks like we have Dolan pushing for IT and Walsh pushing for Mullins- both are absolutely c**p GMs. They're both pretty similar- both are pretty good at the draft, both like to hand out the most ridiculous contracts that can be concieved of for undeserving players. Both enjoy trading away draft picks for c**p (IT traded away more and failed to protect them, but Mullins traded away a first for that chubby Nets reject PG, whose name I forget). Neither can manage the cap or know what it takes to build a team- (Mullins got lucky for one year).

Well, it looks like once Walsh goes, we're doomed- hopefully before he goes Walsh will have us locked into max contracts for Amar'e and Melo, so the new GM has no money to squander.

I think Mullin would be OK. My impresion was he got shot down for hiring Mullin because he already has two guys under him and Dolan didnt want to pay GM salary when the position was being covered.

he doesn't want anyone to get in the way of re-hiring Isiah.

It's only a matter of time. Unless something bad happens to Dolan. Not that I'd ever wish harm on anybody...but Isiah.

If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Just out of interest, why do you think he'd be OK? Honestly, if you look at his record of transactions, it's pretty similar to IT's. Paying no interest to defensive players, the stupid contracts to Mike Dunleavy and Troy Murphy (though he got lucky in that Larry Bird was desperate to trade for 'character' guys after that brawl, regardless of ridiculous contracts) etc etc- here is his track record:

http://hoopshype.com/general_managers/chris_mullin.htm

Actually, looking at that he's not even a good drafter- he selected:

Draft 2005
Selected forwards Ike Diogu (9th overall pick) and Chris Taft (42nd overall pick) and guard Monta Ellis (40th overall pick).

Monta Ellis at 40 is cancelled out by the squandering of the 9th pick on a bust.

Draft 2006
Selected centers Patrick O'Bryant (9th overall pick) and Kosta Perovic (38th overall pick).

Bust!

Draft 2007
Selected guard Marco Belinelli (18th overall pick) and forwards Jermareo Davidson (36th overall pick) and Stephane Lasme (46th overall pick).
Traded guard Jason Richardson and the draft rights to forward Jermareo Davidson to the Charlotte Bobcats for the draft rights to forward Brandan Wright and cash.

Belinelli- Bust! Brandan Wright is on his way to being a bust too (though he if he's healthy he could prove me wrong)

Draft 2008
Selected forwards Anthony Randolph (14th overall pick) and Richard Hendrix (49th overall pick).

Okay good pick, but not a difficult one to make.

Thats a pretty poor record.

Mully had a crap owner in GS and his results are mixed.

Its important that young GM's learn from mistakes. All GM's Make mistakes!!!!

To assume a GM's history is repeated if hired is kind of crazy. They are not athletes.

Maybe one can say Isiah could be the greatest going forward as he has learned a lot.

I'd rather have Mully than Isiah. Isiah has too much garbage he brings into the building and is not liked in too many circles.

Mullin started like Isiah, awarding assinine contracts... but he improved. He traded away the bad contracts he signed.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

I am not sure what is up with the Isiah love. If you disregard the non professional, racial and gender insensitiveness, the lying, calling out of the fans, the sexual harrassment lawsuit, and judge him only how he helped or hurt the team based on roster and salary cap there is still no sane way that you can endorse this guy coming back. If you look at the last holdouts from the Isiah era they are great examples of his failure. Curry has an albatross contract and was acquired for draft picks that turned out to be a number 2 and a number 9. Chandler is one of my favorite Knicks but the Bulls swapped picks with the Knicks the year he was drafted and got Noah. That is just one move and those are only Isiah guys left. There was so much damage done and there is so much evidence that he is not the guy for the job morally, and ethically. If you disregard that he has proven that he is not professionally qualified. He would have destroyed a smaller market team without the bankroll of the Dolans.

Which he did everywhere he went.
He was great player on the court and this about it.
But some people just cannot silently go away.
He should be kept 1000 miles away from NBA.
