lets say IT does trade houston or kvh for rasheed wallace. Rasheed is in his last yr. if we let him walk, do we have enough to enter the kobe sweepstakes? sheed makes 13.5 million this yr i believe.

If a team is over the cap, they can only use exceptions to sign players. The most popular is the Mid-Level Exception (MLE), which was created specifically to allow over-the-cap teams to sign a player outright.
I hope this helps shed some light on things.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year.
GO KNICKS!

even if 17.5 comes off our books...we'll still be over the cap and as long as you are over the cap, the only way you can sign a free agent is through the mid level exception or the $1mil exception...kobes not gonna sign for the mid level exception (around $5mil/yr)
houston, penny, marbury, and shandon...their salaries combined places us over the cap

do we really want/need kobe here? We need a big man before another all star guard.
good point dude. we already have too many of those locked up at max sallary for the next few years. unless isiah pulls off another miracle, we are stuck with this core of guards.
