bored at work so I read what cat fans had to say about Felton before he left and after. There wasnt much heated debate. Most all of the people on that board though the same things:

- he's a poor shooter
- awful at the pick and roll
- had pretty much hit his ceiling
- wasnt worth much more than $6mm a year
- would have been better with a legit bigman (they are very down on their 4s and 5s)
- great character guy
- one of the toughest players in the league.
- had some trouble with the super quick PGs but was a great defender against the other 80%
- good leader on the court, often with effort alone
- good moves going to the basket. Very nice floater. Good at dishing around the paint
- very fast running north south
- should benefit from uptempo MDA/SSOL type system
- excited to see what DJ Aug can do as a starter
- ok with him leaving for that money, but will miss his toughness and personality
- should be a playoff team w/ him and Amare
- good use of cap space/fair contract. Just not worth luxury tax for Bobcats
- one of the toughest competitors in the NBA

Thats pretty much it.

Felton deserves your respect
No one ever tried harder than Raymond Felton to be what the Charlotte Bobcats aspire to be. And no one was a better teammate.

I totally get it that the NBA is about production, not intention. Raymond would be the first person to endorse that, by the way. He never thought being classy or taking the blame for a teammate or devoting himself to the Big Brothers program absolved him of whatever flaws he has as a basketball player.

But that doesn't mean those qualities were trivial. Felton devoted himself to being a keeper here, and now he's headed to the New York Knicks. We all saw this coming -- he turned down a lot of money last season, then had a horrible playoff series against Orlando -- but if I were looking for the psychological profile of an ideal teammate, Felton was it.

He cared about the team more than himself. He set an example for accountability. He submerged his ego to whatever coach Larry Brown asked him to be.

I can tell you all his faults, too: He sometimes dribbled without going anywhere. For most of his career, he shot poorly. He was torched by the Magic's Jameer Nelson when defense should have been his strength.

If someone gets overpaid -- and so many NBA players are overpaid -- I hope it's Felton. If anyone tried to give the Bobcats what they asked for, it was him.

i'll take it for 2 years of guaranteed money. knicks needed a guy like him to bring toughness and intensity.

"awful at pick and roll" yet they concede he never had a good 4/5 to run it with. he may not excel, but i think he'll be average at running it with amare.

the north to south speed is what i'm excited for. getting him the ball and having him push it on the break. duhon was woeful and not fast, i think felton will be a welcome change.

thanks fish.

this may be the biggest and best reason to have signed Felton... the team was in serious need of a culture and mindset change. If he's the guy Gallo, AR, TD, and Wilson will now take their cues from--AWESOME

nobody disliked the guy. The biggest disagreement was he sometimes got overrated because it was hard not love how he played (intense, defense, team first, etc)

I am with you. The instability at PG killed us last 2 years. If we get 12ppg/7ast/4rebs/1.5stls shoots 45% and plays top flight defense we will be greatly improved at PG. If he takes a step forward even better.

I like the idea of a stopper at PG setting the tone for the team to defend. Man have we missed that

Raymond Felton is an average PG. Nothing wrong with that.

That is the way I see it. He is going to look a trillion times better than Duhon though.

He looked AWESOME in today's training camp practice -- I don't think he missed one jumpshot. Everything he put up was all net. The man's a player. Simple as that.

Felton was a huge reason why the Cats made the playoffs last yr with the roster they had. He isn't a star but he is a winner, and hopefully he can teach us how to win.

I don't know about many others here, but I was so tired of the 'plain' PGs we had with Ward & Childs and was thrilled when we got Marbury. Finally we had a pg who could penetrate and hit a lay up.

I realize now that a plain, ordinary pg that knows how to win, can play defense and get the team moving is actually a good thing.

I'm looking forward to seeing Felton play here- no need for flash from him when we'll be getting it from elsewhere on the team.

I agree, especially on the defensive end. Cats fans did mention that Felton hit a lot of big shots late in games and came up with many gave saving defensive plays. He's also extremely durable. More Derrick Harper than Ward/Childs

Has trouble guarding super quick points?

Who doesn't?

If ray was perfect, he'd have a max deal. The hope has to be put him with the right guys and system.

The hype was big on this kid because he was a UNC product coming off a championship. Bobcats took him high in the draft than he should have been.

Derek Harper would have been an All-Star in today's NBA and by far the best perimeter defender in the league.

When Raymond Felton played against us, he would always remind me of Tim Hardaway.

Bobcats always seemed to beat the Knicks. Then again ALL opposing PGs looked like Tim Hardaway, Gary Payton or John Stockton against the Knicks in recent years

I do think Ray Felton is going to make the Knicks look really good this year... he was the third best point in a draft with two elite points. I remember the knock on Felton was that he played too fast for his supporting cast in UNC... he could only play in fifth or sixth gear. He's expanded his game since and obviously that's the pace this team wants to play anyway
